TLDR
Branched-chain fatty acids of the iso and anteiso series occur in many bacteria as the major acyl constituents of membrane lipids and are an important criterion used to aid identification and classification of bacteria.

Effect of kernel processing and particle size of whole-plant corn silage with vitreous endosperm on dairy cow performance.

TL;DR: Evaluating for lactating dairy cows the effects of kernel processing and TLOC of WPCS with vitreous endosperm found cows fed SP6 had lower chewing time and tended to have greater levels of serum amyloid A compared with PT6, which is an indication of more complete biohydrogenation in the rumen.

BDSF Is the Predominant In-Planta Quorum-Sensing Signal Used During Xanthomonas campestris Infection and Pathogenesis in Chinese Cabbage

TL;DR: This is the first report to directly show that BDSF is the predominant in-planta QS signal used during X. campestris pv.campestris infection, providing a better understanding of the molecular interactions between X.Campestris and its cruciferous hosts and also provides the logical target for designing strategies to counteract BDSF signaling and, thus, infection.

Ecophysiological and molecular characterization of estuarine microbial mats

TL;DR: The application of the Signature Lipid Biomarker approach in microbial mat samples has proved to be an effective method to obtain information about physiology and composition of natural microbial assemblages and the importance of the heterotrophic bacteria in the regulation of metabolic processes in the photic zone.

Microbial carbon processing in oligotrophic Lake Lucerne (Switzerland): results of in situ 13C-labelling studies

TL;DR: The results from such a study in oligotrophic Lake Lucerne, Switzerland, were presented in this article based on in situ carbon isotopic labelling experiments using dark, glucose-labelled and transparent, DIC-labeled bottles positioned at different depths in the water column, concluding that even though the photic zone was very deep, integrated primary productivity was consistently low.

Fatty acid and polar lipid composition in the classification of Cellulomonas, Oerskovia and related taxa

TL;DR: Two-dimensional thin-layer chromatography showed that almost identical and very characteristic polar lipid patterns were given by all the organisms under study: the only major components were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosph atidylinositol and two phospho-glycolipids chromatographing similarly to, but distinguishable from, the mono- and diacyl phosphatidolinositols characteristic of Nocardia and other actinomycetes.

Lipids in the Classification and Identification of Coryneform Bacteria Containing Peptidoglycans Based on 2, 4-diaminobutyric Acid

TL;DR: The results of the present study indicate that lipid markers may be of considerable value in the classification and identification of 2, 4-diaminobutyric acid-containing phytopathogenic and saprophytic coryneform bacteria.
