TLDR
Branched-chain fatty acids of the iso and anteiso series occur in many bacteria as the major acyl constituents of membrane lipids and are an important criterion used to aid identification and classification of bacteria.

A geochemical record of eutrophication and anoxia in Chesapeake Bay sediments: anthropogenic influence on organic matter composition

TL;DR: In this article, a 3-m core collected from the mesohaline region of Chesapeake Bay (CB) was examined to determine how sources of organic matter (OM) have changed during the preceding three centuries of increasing anthropogenic influence in this region.

Trans fatty acids and bioactive lipids in ruminant milk.

TL;DR: Developing public health policies promoting a decrease in milk, cheese, and butter consumption ignores the value of these foods as a versatile source of nutrients, as well as the importance of bioactive properties in milk and fermented dairy products.

Control of Membrane Lipid Fluidity by Molecular Thermosensors

TL;DR: Bacteria can encounter a wide range of environments and must adapt to new conditions in order to survive and the barrier function of the cytoplasmic membrane is known to depend on the plasma membrane.

Functional metagenomic profiling of intestinal microbiome in extreme ageing

TL;DR: The data emphasize the relationship between intestinal bacteria and human metabolism, by detailing the modifications in the gut microbiota as a consequence of and/or promoter of the physiological changes occurring in the human host upon ageing.

Molecular signals for anaerobic methane oxidation in Black Sea seep carbonates and a microbial mat

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the presence and metabolic activity of distinctive methane-related biota in the cold seep carbonates and an associated microbial mat and found that the arboricity of these organisms indicates a pronounced role of particular Archaea in the biogeochemical cycling of carbon at methane seeps.

Fatty acid and polar lipid composition in the classification of Cellulomonas, Oerskovia and related taxa

TL;DR: Two-dimensional thin-layer chromatography showed that almost identical and very characteristic polar lipid patterns were given by all the organisms under study: the only major components were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosph atidylinositol and two phospho-glycolipids chromatographing similarly to, but distinguishable from, the mono- and diacyl phosphatidolinositols characteristic of Nocardia and other actinomycetes.

Lipids in the Classification and Identification of Coryneform Bacteria Containing Peptidoglycans Based on 2, 4-diaminobutyric Acid

TL;DR: The results of the present study indicate that lipid markers may be of considerable value in the classification and identification of 2, 4-diaminobutyric acid-containing phytopathogenic and saprophytic coryneform bacteria.
