TLDR
Branched-chain fatty acids of the iso and anteiso series occur in many bacteria as the major acyl constituents of membrane lipids and are an important criterion used to aid identification and classification of bacteria.

A biomarker record of Lake El'gygytgyn, Far East Russian Arctic: investigating sources of organic matter and carbon cycling during marine isotope stages 1–3

TL;DR: This paper investigated the abundance and carbon isotopic composition of lipid biomarkers recovered from Lake El'gygygytgyn sediments spanning marine isotope stages 1-3 to identify key sources of organic matter (OM) to lake sediments, to establish which OM sources drive the negative δ13C excursion exhibited by bulk sediment OM, and to explore if there are molecular and isotopic signatures of anoxia in the lake during glaciation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Nitrogen regulation of fatty acids and avermectins biosynthesis in Streptomyces avermitilis.

TL;DR: Significant differences in nitrogen regulation of fatty acid biosynthesis were found in this strain in comparison with other streptomycetes studied so far, which could be explained at the level of regulation of branched-chain amino acid metabolism.

Peptide antibiotic trichogin in model membranes: Self-association and capture of fatty acids.

TL;DR: This work investigates the concentration dependence of self-assembling process for peptaibol trichogin GA IV (Tric) in the 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoysl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (POPC) model membrane in the range of peptide concentrations between 0.5 and 3.3 mol%.

Differential Impact of Plant Secondary Metabolites on the Soil Microbiota.

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of the treatments on soil bacteria were characteristic for each metabolite, with BOA exerting a predominantly inhibitory effect, with only few genera being able to proliferate, while gramine and quercetin caused the proliferation of many potentially beneficial strains.
Journal ArticleDOI

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of esterase-producing Ureibacillus thermosphaericus isolated from an aerobic digestor of swine waste

TL;DR: Eight closely related thermophilic strains were isolated from an aerobic and thermophile treatment of swine wastes, and the pleomorphic cells showed peritrichous flagella, terminally swollen sporangium, and liberated spores exhibiting hairy appendages.

Fatty acid and polar lipid composition in the classification of Cellulomonas, Oerskovia and related taxa

TL;DR: Two-dimensional thin-layer chromatography showed that almost identical and very characteristic polar lipid patterns were given by all the organisms under study: the only major components were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosph atidylinositol and two phospho-glycolipids chromatographing similarly to, but distinguishable from, the mono- and diacyl phosphatidolinositols characteristic of Nocardia and other actinomycetes.

Lipids in the Classification and Identification of Coryneform Bacteria Containing Peptidoglycans Based on 2, 4-diaminobutyric Acid

TL;DR: The results of the present study indicate that lipid markers may be of considerable value in the classification and identification of 2, 4-diaminobutyric acid-containing phytopathogenic and saprophytic coryneform bacteria.
