FabH selectivity for anteiso branched-chain fatty acid precursors in low-temperature adaptation in Listeria monocytogenes.

TL;DR: Listeria monocytogenes FabH showed a preference for 2-methylbutyryl-CoA, the precursor of odd-numbered anteiso fatty acids, at 30 degrees C, which was further increased at a low temperature, suggesting that temperature-dependent substrate selectivity of FabH underlies the increased formation of anteiso branched-chain fatty acids during low-temperature adaptation.

Changes in whole cell-derived fatty acids induced by naphthalene in bacteria from genus Pseudomonas.

TL;DR: The results showed that naphthalene induced in tested strains different changes in fatty acids composition, which may suggest that in the presence of nAPHthalene microorganisms used different adaptive mechanisms to maintain the cells in appropriate physiological state.

Under-ice availability of phytoplankton lipids is key to freshwater zooplankton winter survival.

TL;DR: It is shown in a survival experiment that the copepod Leptodiaptomus minutus in a boreal lake does not survive five months under the ice without food, highlighting the importance of algal FA reserve accumulation for winter survival as a key ecological process in the annual life cycle of the freshwater plankton community.

Fatty acid and polar lipid composition in the classification of Cellulomonas, Oerskovia and related taxa

TL;DR: Two-dimensional thin-layer chromatography showed that almost identical and very characteristic polar lipid patterns were given by all the organisms under study: the only major components were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosph atidylinositol and two phospho-glycolipids chromatographing similarly to, but distinguishable from, the mono- and diacyl phosphatidolinositols characteristic of Nocardia and other actinomycetes.
