TLDR
Proteoglycan monomer (D1) and aggregate (A1) preparations were isolated from 4 M guanidinium chloride extracts of the Swarm rat chondrosarcoma and contained only small proteoglycan fragments, indicating that extensive enzymatic degradation had occurred.

Determining biological fine structure by differential absorption of soft x‐rays*

TL;DR: The use of soft x-ray contact microscopy in examining histochemically treated human tissue embedded in plastic and exposed as unstained thin sections is demonstrated and hydrated proteoglycan aggregates are examined.

Partial reversal by beta‐d‐xyloside of salicylate‐induced inhibition of glycosaminoglycan synthesis in articular cartilage

TL;DR: While net 35S-glycosaminoglycan synthesis in normal canine articular cartilage was suppressed by 10(-3)M sodium salicylate to about 70% of the control value, addition of xyloside to the salicyllate-treated cultures led to a concentration-dependent increase in glycosaminglycan synthesis, which rose to 120-237% of controls.

Cartilage of I-cell disease.

TL;DR: Increase of cellular debris as well as appearance of atrophic chondrocytes in the zone of cartilage-bone junction may have relation with defective growth of the skeleton and reflect abnormality in the process of posttranslational assembly and modification of glycosaminoglycans in I-cell disease.

Keratan sulphate in the interglobular domain has a microstructure that is distinct from keratan sulphate elsewhere on pig aggrecan.

TL;DR: Keratan sulphate in the interglobular domain of pig aggrecan has a microstructure that is distinct from keratan sulphates in the keraten sulphate-rich region, according to the ratio of unsulphated: monosulphates: disulphate disaccharides generated by endo-beta-galactosidase digestion.

The microfibrillar components of porcine lung elastic fiber.

TL;DR: A new fraction from elastic fiber is proposed, the meso-acidic structural glycoprotein, explaining the inability to obtain the biopolymer elastin with the composition of tropoelastin corrected for the desmosine-lysine content.
