TLDR
Proteoglycan monomer (D1) and aggregate (A1) preparations were isolated from 4 M guanidinium chloride extracts of the Swarm rat chondrosarcoma and contained only small proteoglycan fragments, indicating that extensive enzymatic degradation had occurred.

Extraction and fractionation of proteoglycans from squid skin.

TL;DR: The extractability of squid skin proteoglycans with solutions of varying concentrations of guanidine-HCl, urea and SDS was studied and, being the best extractant, removed 95% of the tissue proteoglyCans (glycosaminoglycan uronic acid).

Analysis of heparan sulfate from the Engelbreth-Holm-Swarm (EHS) tumor

TL;DR: The EHS heparan sulfate was unusually low in O-sulfation and no 6-O sulfated, N-acetylated glucosamine residues adjacent to N-Sulfated block regions were found and Heparan sulfate chains, possibly intracellular degradation products, were also found.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ultrastructure of the chondrocytes and extracellular matrix of the swarm rat chondrosarcoma.

TL;DR: The Swarm chondrosarcoma, a transplantable tumor maintained in rats, has a structure similar to hyaline cartilage, and its characterization biochemically and morphologically as cartilage make the tumor valuable as a model tissue for studies of synthesis and secretion of extracellular matrix materials.
Journal ArticleDOI

Deglycosylation of chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan by hydrogen fluoride in pyridine.

TL;DR: In this paper, the original deglycosylation procedure using HF/pyridine has been modified for maximal removal of carbohydrate from chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan, with minimal alteration of the core protein.
Journal ArticleDOI

Early-onset primary osteoarthritis and mild chondrodysplasia. Radiographic and pathologic studies with an analysis of cartilage proteoglycans.

TL;DR: This family's disorder was a late-onset overlap form of an epiphyseal dysplasia, that a defect common to hyaline articular and physeal cartilage was primary, and that a single structural proteoglycan abnormality was not likely to be the underlying cause.

The reliability of molecular weight determinations by dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis

TL;DR: The results show that the polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis method can be used with great confidence to determine the molecular weights of polypeptide chains for a wide variety of proteins.

A modified uronic acid carbazole reaction

TL;DR: It has been found possible to distinguish betweenHeparin, heparin derivatives, and other polyuronides of connective tissue by comparing the effect of chlorides on the color yield in both procedures by modifying Dische's carbazole reaction for uronic acid in the presence of borate.

Enzymatic Methods for the Determination of Small Quantities of Isomeric Chondroitin Sulfates

TL;DR: Micromethods have been developed and 35S-labeled chondroitin sulfates A, B, and C in a given mixture have been precisely and rapidly determined by measuring radioactivity alone.
