Impact of prior lamivudine use on the antiviral efficacy and development of resistance to entecavir in chronic hepatitis B patients.
Joo An Hwang,Kee Bum Kim,Min Jae Yang,Sun Gyo Lim,Jae Chul Hwang,Jae Youn Cheong,Sung Won Cho,Soon Sun Kim +7 more
TL;DR: Genotypic resistance to ETV developed more frequently in LAM-use patients with CHB, however, prior LAM use without refractoriness did not affect the development of ETV resistance.

PAGE-B and REACH-B Predicts the Risk of Developing Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Chronic Hepatitis B Patients from Northeast, Brazil
Alessandra Porto de Macedo Costa,Marcos Antonio Custódio Neto da Silva,Rogério Soares Castro,AnandaT.D.P. Sampaio,A. M. Alencar Júnior,Márcia Costa da Silva,Adalgisa de Souza Paiva Ferreira +6 more
TL;DR: PAGE-B and REACH-B scores were able to predict the risk of developing HCC in the studied population and the use of risk stratification scores is useful to reduce costs associated with HCC screening.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chinese herbal medicine combined with nucleotide analogues for compensated HBV-related cirrhosis: a systematic review of randomized controlled trials
TL;DR: Evaluating the effectiveness and safety of Chinese herbal medicine plus nucleotide analogues (NAs) for treating compensated HBV-related cirrhosis, the early stage of Cirrhosis suggested significant benefits of CHM plus NAs compared with NAs alone, except those on albumin (ALB).

A European multicenter study on the analytical performance of the VERIS HBV assay.
Patrick Braun,Rafael Delgado,Monica Drago,Diana Fanti,Hervé Fleury,Jacques Izopet,Alessandra Lombardi,Alessandro Mancon,Maria Angeles Marcos,Karine Sauné,Siobhan O′Shea,Alfredo Pérez-Rivilla,John Ramble,Pascale Trimoulet,Jordi Vila,Duncan Whittaker,Alain Artus,Daniel W. Rhodes +17 more
TL;DR: The VERIS HBV Assay demonstrated comparable analytical performance to other currently marketed assays for HBV DNA monitoring, and showed linearity with major HBV genotypes/subtypes.
Journal Article
An observational study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of telbivudine in adults with chronic hepatitis B.
TL;DR: Telbivudine therapy is generally safe and well tolerated among adult Indonesian patients with chronic hepatitis B and treatment efficacy in terms of HBeAg loss and seroconversion, changes of HBV DNA levels and serum ALT normalization were similar to previous reported studies.

Measuring inconsistency in meta-analyses
TL;DR: A new quantity is developed, I 2, which the authors believe gives a better measure of the consistency between trials in a meta-analysis, which is susceptible to the number of trials included in the meta- analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Risk of hepatocellular carcinoma across a biological gradient of serum hepatitis B virus DNA level.
Chien-Jen Chen,Hwai I. Yang,Jun Su,C.-L. Jen,San Lin You,Sheng-Nan Lu,Guan-Tarn Huang,Uchenna H. Iloeje +7 more
TL;DR: Elevated serum HBV DNA level (> or =10,000 copies/mL) is a strong risk predictor of hepatocellular carcinoma independent of HBeAg, serum alanine aminotransferase level, and liver cirrhosis.

The contributions of hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus infections to cirrhosis and primary liver cancer worldwide
TL;DR: HBV and HCV infections account for the majority of cirrhosis and primary liver cancer throughout most of the world, highlighting the need for programs to prevent new infections and provide medical management and treatment for those already infected.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hepatocellular carcinoma in cirrhosis: incidence and risk factors.
TL;DR: Further studies are needed to investigate other viral factors (eg, HBV genotype/mutant, occult HBV, HIV coinfection) and preventable or treatable comorbidities ( eg, obesity, diabetes) in the HCC risk in cirrhosis.
