Hepatitis B virus infection
TL;DR: Developing new therapies that can improve HBsAg clearance and virological cure is warranted because long-term antiviral treatment can reverse cirrhosis and reduce hepatocellular carcinoma.

Long-Term Outcome after Hepatitis B Surface Antigen Seroclearance in Patients with Chronic Hepatitis B
Yasuji Arase,Kenji Ikeda,Fumitaka Suzuki,Yoshiyuki Suzuki,Satoshi Saitoh,Masahiro Kobayashi,Norio Akuta,Takashi Someya,Tetsuya Hosaka,Hitomi Sezaki,Mariko Kobayashi,Hiromitsu Kumada +11 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that HBsAg seroclearance confers favorable long-term outcomes in patients without hepatocellular carcinoma or decompensated liver cirrhosis at the time of HBs Ag serolearance.

Role of Hepatitis B Virus Precore/Core Promoter Mutations and Serum Viral Load on Noncirrhotic Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Case-Control Study
Chun-Jen Liu,Bing-Fang Chen,Pei-Jer Chen,Ming-Yang Lai,Wen-Ling Huang,Jia-Horng Kao,Ding-Shinn Chen +6 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that BCP T1762/A1764 mutation and higher viral load may be involved in the carcinogenesis of cirrhotic and noncirrhotic HCC.

Outcome of chronic hepatitis B in Caucasian children during a 20-year observation period
Flavia Bortolotti,Paloma Jara,Carlo Crivellaro,Loreto Hierro,Paolo Cadrobbi,Esteban Frauca,Carmen Camarena,Angela de la Vega,Carmen Diaz,Lorena De Moliner,Franco Noventa +10 more
TL;DR: The large majority of Caucasian children with chronic hepatitis B became asymptomatic carriers of infection with normal alanine amino-transferase during the first 20 years of observation, and a subgroup of patients who experienced reactivation or maintained liver damage after HBeAg clearance seems to be at greater risk for disease progression during adult life.
