The accuracy of several algorithms was determined and the best performing methods were implemented in a user-friendly open-source tool for performing DPIV flow analysis in Matlab.Abstract:
Digital particle image velocimetry (DPIV) is a non-intrusive analysis technique that is very popular for mapping flows quantitatively. To get accurate results, in particular in complex flow fields, a number of challenges have to be faced and solved: The quality of the flow measurements is affected by computational details such as image pre-conditioning, sub-pixel peak estimators, data validation procedures, interpolation algorithms and smoothing methods. The accuracy of several algorithms was determined and the best performing methods were implemented in a user-friendly open-source tool for performing DPIV flow analysis in Matlab.read more

Zebrafish swimming in the flow: a particle image velocimetry study
TL;DR: The locomotion and hydrodynamics of a single zebrafish swimming in a miniature water tunnel using particle image velocimetry are experimentally investigated and it is demonstrated that locomotory patterns play a central role on the flow physics.

Wet granular flow control through liquid induced cohesion
TL;DR: In this paper, a scaling methodology is proposed to obtain invariant bed flow characteristics for different particle sizes in the flow regimes considered (rolling and cascading regimes), and thus allows to control the flow.

Assessment of PIV-based analysis of water entry problems through synthetic numerical datasets
TL;DR: In this article, a particle image velocimetry (PIV) based approach was used to study the two-dimensional flow physics generated during the water entry of a rigid wedge, where water and air were treated as immiscible phases and their relative motion was utilized to track the free surface dynamics.

UAVs for Hydrologic Scopes: Application of a Low-Cost UAV to Estimate Surface Water Velocity by Using Three Different Image-Based Methods
TL;DR: In this article, a low-cost unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was used to capture a video over a specific reach of the Aggitis River in Greece, and the captured frames were analyzed by three different software (PIVlab, PTVlab, and KU-STIV) in order to estimate accurately the surface water velocity.

Remodeling neuronal ER-PM junctions is a conserved nonconducting function of Kv2 plasma membrane ion channels.
TL;DR: A conserved in vivo function for Kv2 family members in remodeling neuronal ER–PM junctions that is distinct from their canonical role as ion-conducting channels shaping neuronal excitability is demonstrated.

TL;DR: It is concluded that clipped ahe should become a method of choice in medical imaging and probably also in other areas of digital imaging, and that clip ahe can be made adequately fast to be routinely applied in the normal display sequence.

TL;DR: In this article, the directional ambiguity associated with PIV and LSV is resolved by implementing local spatial cross-correlations between two sequential single-exposed particle images, and the recovered velocity data are used to compute the spatial and temporal vorticity distribution and the circulation of the vortex ring.
