TLDR
The accuracy of several algorithms was determined and the best performing methods were implemented in a user-friendly open-source tool for performing DPIV flow analysis in Matlab.Abstract:
Digital particle image velocimetry (DPIV) is a non-intrusive analysis technique that is very popular for mapping flows quantitatively. To get accurate results, in particular in complex flow fields, a number of challenges have to be faced and solved: The quality of the flow measurements is affected by computational details such as image pre-conditioning, sub-pixel peak estimators, data validation procedures, interpolation algorithms and smoothing methods. The accuracy of several algorithms was determined and the best performing methods were implemented in a user-friendly open-source tool for performing DPIV flow analysis in Matlab.read more

RheoSpeckle: a new tool to investigate local flow and microscopic dynamics of soft matter under shear
TL;DR: In this paper, a stress-controlled rheometer equipped with a Couette cell was used to measure both the deformation field and the microscopic dynamics of tracer particles, both during shear and at rest.

Vortical structures in the wake of falling plates
TL;DR: Flow visualization and particle image velocimetry are applied to capture the flow fields generated by all three states of a falling plate in two dimensional passive flight—fluttering, chaotic, and tumbling, finding that their formations are dependent on the trajectory.

TL;DR: Using time-lapse confocal imaging of epithelial tissues in living zebrafish larvae, it is concluded that localized cell number plays a key role in dictating cellular behaviors that facilitate wound closure and tissue repair.

Solid Circulating Velocity Measurement in a Liquid–Solid Micro-Circulating Fluidised Bed
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used the digital particle image velocimetry (PIV) method to determine the particle velocity in a micro-CFB system and validated by the valve accumulation technique using a novel magnetic micro-valve.

Flowability of granular materials with industrial applications - An experimental approach
J. Torres-Serra,Enrique Romero,Antonio Rodríguez-Ferran,Joan Caba,Xavier Arderiu,Josep-Manel Padullés,Juanjo González +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, a new prototype is presented which performs granular column collapse tests using visualization techniques and load measurements, and a reservoir is attached where packing state of the granular material can be adjusted before run-off to simulate actual handling conditions by fluidisation and deaeration of the pile.

The Design and Implementation of FFTW3
Matteo Frigo,Steven G. Johnson +1 more
TL;DR: It is shown that such an approach can yield an implementation of the discrete Fourier transform that is competitive with hand-optimized libraries, and the software structure that makes the current FFTW3 version flexible and adaptive is described.

TL;DR: It is concluded that clipped ahe should become a method of choice in medical imaging and probably also in other areas of digital imaging, and that clip ahe can be made adequately fast to be routinely applied in the normal display sequence.

Digital Particle Image Velocimetry
Christian Willert,Morteza Gharib +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the directional ambiguity associated with PIV and LSV is resolved by implementing local spatial cross-correlations between two sequential single-exposed particle images, and the recovered velocity data are used to compute the spatial and temporal vorticity distribution and the circulation of the vortex ring.
