The accuracy of several algorithms was determined and the best performing methods were implemented in a user-friendly open-source tool for performing DPIV flow analysis in Matlab.Abstract:
Digital particle image velocimetry (DPIV) is a non-intrusive analysis technique that is very popular for mapping flows quantitatively. To get accurate results, in particular in complex flow fields, a number of challenges have to be faced and solved: The quality of the flow measurements is affected by computational details such as image pre-conditioning, sub-pixel peak estimators, data validation procedures, interpolation algorithms and smoothing methods. The accuracy of several algorithms was determined and the best performing methods were implemented in a user-friendly open-source tool for performing DPIV flow analysis in Matlab.read more

Effect of an upstream grid on the fluidization of pharmaceutical carrier powders
TL;DR: This study contributes towards a better understanding of fluidization processes as relevant to dry powder inhaler devices and sheds light on how simple design alterations, such as adding an upstream grid, can be incorporated to optimise device effectiveness.

Longer collagen fibers trigger multicellular streaming on soft substrates via enhanced forces and cell-cell cooperation.
TL;DR: A stiffness-modulated effect of collagen fiber length on collective cell streaming is revealed and a biophysical mechanism of streaming governed by a delicate balance of enhanced forces, monolayer cohesion and cell–cell cooperation is unveiled.

Effect of base blowing by a large-scale fluidic oscillator on the bistable wake behind a flat-back Ahmed body
TL;DR: In this article , a sweeping jet (SWJ) actuator is integrated into the base of a flat-back Ahmed body such that its nozzle width corresponds to about 2/3 of the bluff body base width.

FGF21 Induced by the ASK1-p38 Pathway Promotes Mechanical Cell Competition by Attracting Cells.
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors showed that scribKD cells secrete fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) to drive cell competition and demonstrate that activation of the apoptosis signal-regulating kinase 1 (ASK1)-p38 pathway in scribD cells induces FGF21.

Evaluation of a Desktop 3D Printed Rigid Refractive-Indexed-Matched Flow Phantom for PIV Measurements on Cerebral Aneurysms
Wei Hua Ho,Ilunga Jeanmark Tshimanga,Malebogo Ngoepe,Mark Jermy,Patrick Geoghegan,Patrick Geoghegan +5 more
TL;DR: This study presents an alternative low-cost option for 3D printing of a flow phantom suitable for flow visualization simulations by removing the necessity of a multi-part process required with investment casting techniques.

The Design and Implementation of FFTW3
Matteo Frigo,Steven G. Johnson +1 more
TL;DR: It is shown that such an approach can yield an implementation of the discrete Fourier transform that is competitive with hand-optimized libraries, and the software structure that makes the current FFTW3 version flexible and adaptive is described.

TL;DR: It is concluded that clipped ahe should become a method of choice in medical imaging and probably also in other areas of digital imaging, and that clip ahe can be made adequately fast to be routinely applied in the normal display sequence.

Digital Particle Image Velocimetry
Christian Willert,Morteza Gharib +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the directional ambiguity associated with PIV and LSV is resolved by implementing local spatial cross-correlations between two sequential single-exposed particle images, and the recovered velocity data are used to compute the spatial and temporal vorticity distribution and the circulation of the vortex ring.
