Abstract
Digital particle image velocimetry (DPIV) is a non-intrusive analysis technique that is very popular for mapping flows quantitatively. To get accurate results, in particular in complex flow fields, a number of challenges have to be faced and solved: The quality of the flow measurements is affected by computational details such as image pre-conditioning, sub-pixel peak estimators, data validation procedures, interpolation algorithms and smoothing methods. The accuracy of several algorithms was determined and the best performing methods were implemented in a user-friendly open-source tool for performing DPIV flow analysis in Matlab.

Hydraulic, wash-off and sediment transport experiments in a full-scale urban drainage physical model.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented a dataset obtained from hydraulic and sediment transport experiments performed in a full-scale urban drainage physical model of 36'm2, where they measured sediment mobilization through the different parts of the model (surface, gully pots and pipe system), also obtaining a precise characterization of water flow and using realistic rainfall simulator.

Influence of Rack Slope and Approaching Conditions in Bottom Intake Systems

TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed the flow over bottom racks made of longitudinal T-shaped bars and quantified the velocity field measured with Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) technique and the pressure field with Pitot tubes.

Roles of wing flexibility and kinematics in flapping wing aerodynamics

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of varied sweep duration and timing of rotation on the unsteady aerodynamic characteristics of hovering flexible and rigid wings at Re of 104 was investigated, which indicated that natural fliers adopt specific wing kinematics in addition to their wing deformation for the upward titling of their net force vector, which will significantly enhance their aerodynamic performance.

Flow characteristics of a wall-attaching oscillating jet over single-wall and double-wall geometries

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of the Reynolds number based on the hydraulic diameter (D) and mean velocity of throat (U) was also studied in the range of 2000-10,000.

Triggering and Tracing Electro‐Hydrodynamic Liquid‐Metal Surface Convection with a Particle Raft

TL;DR: In this paper, the surface convection of eutectic gallium indium (eGaIn) was found to be driven by the surface-tension imbalance originated from the numerous tiny copper and eGaIn galvanic couples through the electrocapillary mechanism.

The Design and Implementation of FFTW3

TL;DR: It is shown that such an approach can yield an implementation of the discrete Fourier transform that is competitive with hand-optimized libraries, and the software structure that makes the current FFTW3 version flexible and adaptive is described.

Adaptive histogram equalization and its variations

TL;DR: It is concluded that clipped ahe should become a method of choice in medical imaging and probably also in other areas of digital imaging, and that clip ahe can be made adequately fast to be routinely applied in the normal display sequence.

Digital Particle Image Velocimetry

TL;DR: In this article, the directional ambiguity associated with PIV and LSV is resolved by implementing local spatial cross-correlations between two sequential single-exposed particle images, and the recovered velocity data are used to compute the spatial and temporal vorticity distribution and the circulation of the vortex ring.
