TLDR
The accuracy of several algorithms was determined and the best performing methods were implemented in a user-friendly open-source tool for performing DPIV flow analysis in Matlab.Abstract:
Digital particle image velocimetry (DPIV) is a non-intrusive analysis technique that is very popular for mapping flows quantitatively. To get accurate results, in particular in complex flow fields, a number of challenges have to be faced and solved: The quality of the flow measurements is affected by computational details such as image pre-conditioning, sub-pixel peak estimators, data validation procedures, interpolation algorithms and smoothing methods. The accuracy of several algorithms was determined and the best performing methods were implemented in a user-friendly open-source tool for performing DPIV flow analysis in Matlab.read more

Study of the flow induced by circular cylinder performing torsional oscillation
TL;DR: In this paper, the flow velocity generated by a cylinder immersed in a quiescent fluid layer and performing torsional oscillation has been studied and the boundary layer thickness has been estimated from three different methodologies: numerical, integral and differential.

Concentration-Polarization Electroosmosis near Insulating Constrictions within Microfluidic Channels.
TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe stationary electroosmotic flows of electrolytes around insulating constrictions induced by low frequency AC electric fields (below 10 kHz) for two different channel heights (50 and 10 μm), together with numerical simulations based on an electrokinetic model that considers the modification of the local ionic concentration due to surface conductance on charged insulating walls.

Sand particle velocities over a subaqueous dune slope using high‐frequency image capturing
TL;DR: In this paper, measurements and analysis of sand particle velocities over a subaqueous dune with median sand diameter of 0.85mm were performed using time-lapse images of the mobile bed and an automated particle image velocimetry (PIV)-based cross correlation method.

Elastic Strain Effects on Wave Scattering: Implications for Coda Wave Interferometry (CWI)
Jérôme Azzola,Jean Schmittbuhl,Dimitri Zigone,Olivier Lengliné,Frédéric Masson,Vincent Magnenet +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors quantify the impact of elastic deformation on CWI measurements at laboratory scales by comparing experimental results from wave scattering measurements during a uniaxial compression test to those of a numerical approach based on the combination of two codes.

The Design and Implementation of FFTW3
Matteo Frigo,Steven G. Johnson +1 more
TL;DR: It is shown that such an approach can yield an implementation of the discrete Fourier transform that is competitive with hand-optimized libraries, and the software structure that makes the current FFTW3 version flexible and adaptive is described.

Particle Image Velocimetry: A Practical Guide
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a practical guide for the planning, performance and understanding of experiments employing the PIV technique, which is primarily intended for engineers, scientists and students, who already have some basic knowledge of fluid mechanics and nonintrusive optical measurement techniques.

Digital Particle Image Velocimetry
Christian Willert,Morteza Gharib +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the directional ambiguity associated with PIV and LSV is resolved by implementing local spatial cross-correlations between two sequential single-exposed particle images, and the recovered velocity data are used to compute the spatial and temporal vorticity distribution and the circulation of the vortex ring.
