TL;DR: This study presents the lifetime and one‐year prevalence of 27 and of 17 specific psychiatric disorders respectively, using the multistage random sampling method from metropolitan Taipei, 2 small towns and 6 rural villages from 1982 to 1986.
Abstract: The Taiwan Psychiatric Epidemiological Project, conducted from 1982 to 1986, used the multistage random sampling method with 5005, 3004 and 2995 subjects selected respectively from metropolitan Taipei (MT), 2 small towns (ST) and 6 rural villages (RV). The case identification tool was the Chinese modified Diagnostic Interview Schedule (DIS-CM). This study presents the lifetime and one-year prevalence of 27 and of 17 specific psychiatric disorders respectively. The lifetime prevalence of any disorder defined by the DIS-CM—excluding tobacco dependence—was 16.3%, 28.0% and 21.5% in the MT, ST and RV samples respectively. The differences in lifetime prevalence between the sexes and between the 3 sampling areas were significant for 15 and 8 disorders respectively. The ST sample seemed to have the most disorders, with the highest prevalence among 3 sampling areas. The mean ratio of one-year to lifetime prevalence was 0.67. The differences in prevalence rates between the 3 sampling areas and between the international studies are discussed from methodological, social and cultural points of view.

TL;DR: In this paper, the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer on the International Space Station was used to measure the primary cosmic-ray electron flux in the range 0.5 to 700 GeV and the positron flux in a range of 0.1 to 500 GeV.
Abstract: Precision measurements by the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer on the International Space Station of the primary cosmic-ray electron flux in the range 0.5 to 700 GeV and the positron flux in the range 0.5 to 500 GeV are presented. The electron flux and the positron flux each require a description beyond a single power-law spectrum. Both the electron flux and the positron flux change their behavior at ∼30 GeV but the fluxes are significantly different in their magnitude and energy dependence. Between 20 and 200 GeV the positron spectral index is significantly harder than the electron spectral index. The determination of the differing behavior of the spectral indices versus energy is a new observation and provides important information on the origins of cosmic-ray electrons and positrons.

TL;DR: In this paper, the structural and magnetic phase transitions in Fe1+ySexTe1-x.068Te exhibits a first-order phase transition near 67 K with a tetragonal-to-monoclinic structural transition and simultaneously develops a collinear antiferromagnetic (AF) order responsible for the entropy change across the transition.
Abstract: We use bulk magnetic susceptibility, electronic specific heat, and neutron scattering to study structural and magnetic phase transitions in Fe1+ySexTe1-x. Fe1.068Te exhibits a first-order phase transition near 67 K with a tetragonal-to-monoclinic structural transition and simultaneously develops a collinear antiferromagnetic (AF) order responsible for the entropy change across the transition. Systematic studies of the FeSe1-xTex system reveal that the AF structure and lattice distortion in these materials are different from those of FeAs-based pnictides. These results call into question the conclusions of present density-functional calculations, where FeSe1-xTex and FeAs-based pnictides are expected to have similar Fermi surfaces and therefore the same spin-density wave AF order.

TL;DR: The differences in allele frequencies of A/G allele and its levels of VKORC1 promoter activity may underscore the inter-individual differences in warfarin dosage as well as inter-ethnic differences between Chinese and Caucasians.
Abstract: Warfarin, a commonly prescribed anticoagulant, exhibited large inter-individual and inter-ethnic differences in the dose required for its anticoagulation effect. Asian populations, including Chinese, require a much lower maintenance dose than Caucasians, for which the mechanisms still remain unknown. We determined DNA sequence variants in CYP2C9 and VKORC1 in 16 Chinese patients having warfarin sensitivity ( or = 6.0 mg/day, n = 5), 104 randomly selected Chinese patients receiving warfarin, 95 normal Chinese controls and 92 normal Caucasians. We identified three CYP2C9 variants, CYP2C9*3, T299A and P382L, in four warfarin-sensitive patients. A novel VKORC1 promoter polymorphism (-1639 G > A) presented in the homozygous form (genotype AA) was found in all warfarin-sensitive patients. The resistant patients were either AG or GG. Among the 104 randomly selected Chinese patients receiving warfarin, AA genotype also had lower dose than the AG/GG genotype (P < 0.0001). Frequencies of AA, AG and GG genotypes were comparable in Chinese patients receiving warfarin (79.7, 17.6 and 2.7%) and normal Chinese controls (82, 18 and 0%), but differed significantly from Caucasians (14, 47 and 39%) (P < 0.0001). The promoter polymorphism abolished the E-box consensus sequences and dual luciferase assay revealed that VOKRC1 promoter with the G allele had a 44% increase of activity when compared with the A allele. The differences in allele frequencies of A/G allele and its levels of VKORC1 promoter activity may underscore the inter-individual differences in warfarin dosage as well as inter-ethnic differences between Chinese and Caucasians.

TL;DR: In this article, the structural, electronic, and optical properties of hydrogen-passivated silicon nanowires along [110] and [111] directions with diameter d up to 4.2 nm from first principles were investigated.
Abstract: We investigate the structural, electronic, and optical properties of hydrogen-passivated silicon nanowires along [110] and [111] directions with diameter d up to 4.2 nm from first principles. The size and orientation dependence of the band gap is investigated and the local-density gap is corrected with the GW approximation. Quantum confinement becomes significant for d<2.2 nm, where the dielectric function exhibits strong anisotropy and new low-energy absorption peaks start to appear in the imaginary part of the dielectric function for polarization along the wire axis.
