TL;DR: In this paper, the spontaneous emission from a three-level atom embedded in a photonic band gap structure is studied, where interference between two transitions leads to quasiperiodic oscillations of population between the two upper levels with large amplitudes.
Abstract: The spontaneous emission from a three-level atom embedded in a photonic band gap structure is studied. Interference between two transitions leads to quasiperiodic oscillations of population between the two upper levels with large amplitudes. The spontaneous emission of the atom is characterized by three components in the radiated field: a localized part, a traveling pulse, and a $(1/\sqrt{t}{)}^{3}$ decaying part. An analytical expression for the localization distance of the localized field is obtained. The energy velocity for the traveling pulse could be close to zero. By selecting an appropriate initial superposition state, a large amount of population trapping can be achieved.

TL;DR: All of the WOM characteristics, which were investigated (quality, authority, authenticity and interestingness), have a positive effect on resenders' acceptance toward WOM, which, in turn, have a significant positive impact on resender' resending intention.
Abstract: Purpose – This paper seeks to explore factors that can help generate a bigger ripple for diffusive Word‐of‐Mouth (WOM) in an online environment. Specifically, the paper aims to demonstrate how the characteristics of WOM information influence the ripple effect.Design/methodology/approach – The paper used a survey based on real posts in online discussion forums to collect the data. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was utilized for analysis.Findings – WOM as diffusive communication could generate a ripple effect. All of the WOM characteristics, which were investigated (quality, authority, authenticity and interestingness), have a positive effect on resenders' acceptance toward WOM, which, in turn, have a significant positive impact on resenders' resending intention. Furthermore, the positive impacts of WOM characteristics on resenders' acceptance exist, regardless of whether the valence of WOM information is positive or negative.Research limitations/implications – This study provides insights into the rol...

TL;DR: This paper explored the relation between individualism and horizons and types of corporate investment, based on individualism's implications for risk taking, and found that firms in individualistic countries invest more in long-term (risky) than in short-term assets.
Abstract: We explore the relation between individualism and horizons and types of corporate investment, based on individualism’s implications for risk taking. We find that firms in individualistic countries invest more in long-term (risky) than in short-term (safe) assets. Moreover, the effect of individualism on long-term investment hinges on RD and (2) firms in individualistic countries invest more in R&D because they have higher investment efficiency, or pick less-risky R&D projects. We further find that individualistic firms tend to employ excess cash to increase R&D rather than increase dividends, and R&D decisions are less reliant on internal financing but more responsive to growth opportunities in individualistic countries.

TL;DR: A group of TCM clinical experts, methodologists, epidemiologists, and editors has developed this CONSORT Extension for CHM Formulas 2017 through a comprehensive process, including publication of the draft version, solicitation of comments, revision, and finalization.
Abstract: Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) formulas are the major components of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) interventions. The general reporting quality of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of CHM formulas is disappointing, although CONSORT (Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials) Statement extensions for herbal medicinal interventions and acupuncture interventions are available. A group of TCM clinical experts, methodologists, epidemiologists, and editors has developed this CONSORT Extension for CHM Formulas (CONSORT-CHM Formulas 2017) through a comprehensive process, including publication of the draft version, solicitation of comments, revision, and finalization. The CONSORT 2010 Statement was extended by introducing the idea of TCM Pattern and the features of CHM formulas. One new checklist subitem, keywords, was added to facilitate indexing and data searching. Seven of the 25 CONSORT checklist items, namely title and abstract, background and objectives, participants, interventions, outcomes, generalizability, and interpretation, are now elaborated, and the explanation of harms specific to CHM formulas is revised. Illustrative examples and explanations are also provided. The group hopes that CONSORT-CHM Formulas 2017 can improve the reporting quality of RCTs of CHM formulas.
