17 Aug 1999TL;DR: In this paper, a new approach using way prediction for achieving high performance and low energy consumption of set-associative caches is proposed, where only a single cache way is accessed, instead of accessing all the ways in a set.
Abstract: This paper proposes a new approach using way prediction for achieving high performance and low energy consumption of set-associative caches. By accessing only a single cache way predicted, instead of accessing all the ways in a set, the energy consumption can be reduced. This paper shows that the way-predicting set-associative cache improves the ED (energy-delay) product by 60-70% compared to a conventional set-associative cache,.

TL;DR: The present study describes a new drug where molecular self-assembly acts as the mechanism of cytotoxicity, and reports cancer cell death initiated by the intracellular molecularSelf-assembly of a peptide lipid, which was derived from a gelator precursor.
Abstract: We report cancer cell death initiated by the intracellular molecular self-assembly of a peptide lipid, which was derived from a gelator precursor. The gelator precursor was designed to form nanofibers via molecular self-assembly, after cleavage by a cancer-related enzyme (matrix metalloproteinase-7, MMP-7), leading to hydrogelation. The gelator precursor exhibited remarkable cytotoxicity to five different cancer cell lines, while the precursor exhibited low cytotoxicity to normal cells. Cancer cells secrete excessive amounts of MMP-7, which converted the precursor into a supramolecular gelator prior to its uptake by the cells. Once inside the cells, the supramolecular gelator formed a gel via molecular self-assembly, exerting vital stress on the cancer cells. The present study thus describes a new drug where molecular self-assembly acts as the mechanism of cytotoxicity.

TL;DR: This paper determines the rate-distortion region in the case where the L sources working as partial side information are conditionally independent if the remaining source the authors wish to reconstruct is given.
Abstract: In this paper, we consider the separate coding problem for L+1 correlated Gaussian memoryless sources. We deal with the case where L sources work as partial side information at the decoder for the reconstruction of the remaining source. The determination problem of the rate-distortion region for this system is the so-called many-help-one problem and it has been known as a highly challenging problem for almost 20 years. In this paper, we give a partial solution to this problem. We determine the rate-distortion region in the case where the L sources working as partial side information are conditionally independent if the remaining source we wish to reconstruct is given. The additive white Gaussian noise CEO problem is a special case of this. We also discuss the relation of the result previous results of ours
