TL;DR: In a longitudinal study at North Carolina State University, a cohort of students took five chemical engineering courses taught by the same instructor in five consecutive semesters as discussed by the authors, which made extensive use of active and cooperative learning and a variety of other techniques designed to address a broad spectrum of learning styles.
Abstract: In a longitudinal study at North Carolina State University, a cohort of students took five chemical engineering courses taught by the same instructor in five consecutive semesters. The courses made extensive use of active and cooperative learning and a variety of other techniques designed to address a broad spectrum of learning styles. Previous reports on the study summarized the instructional methods used in the experimental course sequence, described the performance of the cohort in the introductory chemical engineering course, and examined performance and attitude differences between students from rural and urban backgrounds and between male and female students.1–4 This paper compares outcomes for the experimental cohort with outcomes for students in a traditionally-taught comparison group. The experimental group outperformed the comparison group on a number of measures, including retention and graduation in chemical engineering, and many more of the graduates in this group chose to pursue advanced study in the field. Since the experimental instructional model did not require small classes (the smallest of the experimental classes had 90 students) or specially equipped classrooms, it should be adaptable to any engineering curriculum at any institution.

TL;DR: A glyphosate-resistant Palmer amaranth biotype was confirmed in central Georgia and I50 values for visual control and shoot fresh weight were 8 and 6.2 times greater, respectively, with the resistant biotype compared with a known glyphosate-susceptible biotype.
Abstract: A glyphosate-resistant Palmer amaranth biotype was confirmed in central Georgia. In the field, glyphosate applied to 5- to 13-cm-tall Palmer amaranth at three times the normal use rate of 0.84 kg ae ha−1 controlled this biotype only 17%. The biotype was controlled 82% by glyphosate at 12 times the normal use rate. In the greenhouse, I50 values (rate necessary for 50% inhibition) for visual control and shoot fresh weight, expressed as percentage of the nontreated, were 8 and 6.2 times greater, respectively, with the resistant biotype compared with a known glyphosate-susceptible biotype. Glyphosate absorption and translocation and the number of chromosomes did not differ between biotypes. Shikimate was detected in leaf tissue of the susceptible biotype treated with glyphosate but not in the resistant biotype. Nomenclature: Glyphosate; Palmer amaranth, Amaranthus palmeri S. Wats; AMAPA.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors provide details of the manufacturing and material factors affecting the process, the conditions needed for preparing desired uniform morphologies, and the different types of structures that have been successfully produced.
Abstract: Preparation of nanofibers in a core‐sheath configuration, using two dissimilar materials, via a novel technique of co‐axial electrospinning has presented unusual potential for use in many novel applications. The studies have addressed issues related to the technology involved and examined the suitability of the technique for producing unique nanoscale morphologies involving variety of materials. In this first major review of co‐axial electrospinning, we provide details of the manufacturing and material factors affecting the process, the conditions needed for preparing desired uniform morphologies, and the different types of structures that have been successfully produced.
