TL;DR: Gas sorption measurements reveal that [Cu(bpy-1)(2)(SiF(6))] exhibits the highest uptake for CO(2) yet seen at 298 K and 1 atm by a PCP that does not contain open metal sites, and larger pores and surface area are observed than previously observed, but the PCP retains a highCO(2)/CH(4) relative uptake.
Abstract: A previously known class of porous coordination polymer (PCP) of formula [Cu(bpy-n)2(SiF6)] (bpy-1 = 4,4′-bipyridine; bpy-2 = 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethene) has been studied to assess its selectivity toward CO2, CH4, N2, and H2O. Gas sorption measurements reveal that [Cu(bpy-1)2(SiF6)] exhibits the highest uptake for CO2 yet seen at 298 K and 1 atm by a PCP that does not contain open metal sites. Significantly, [Cu(bpy-1)2(SiF6)] does not exhibit particularly high uptake under the same conditions for CH4, N2, and, H2O, presumably because of its lack of open metal sites. Consequently, at 298 K and 1 atm [Cu(bpy-1)2(SiF6)] exhibits a relative uptake of CO2 over CH4 of ca. 10.5:1, the highest value experimentally observed in a compound without open metal sites. [Cu(bpy-2)2(SiF6)] exhibits larger pores and surface area than [Cu(bpy-1)2(SiF6)] but retains a high CO2/CH4 relative uptake of ca. 8:1.

TL;DR: The higher order (gas-phase) protein structure affects the dissociation processes, as observed in comparisons of tandem mass spectra of the native and disulfide-reduced forms of ribonuclease A.
Abstract: Tandem mass spectrometry has been used to obtain information related to portions of the primary sequence for an intact protein, bovine ribonuclease A. Multiply charged molecular ions, generated by electrospray ionization, were collisionally dissociated at low energies in a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer to yield singly and multiply charged fragment ions that can be assigned to the known sequence of the protein. Dissociation of the highly charged molecular ions resulted in pairs of complementary product ions. The higher order (gas-phase) protein structure affects the dissociation processes, as observed in comparisons of tandem mass spectra of the native and disulfide-reduced forms of ribonuclease A.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented a multi-model global dataset of nitrogen and sulfate deposition covering time periods from 1850 to 2100, calculated within the Atmospheric Chemistry and Climate Model Intercomparison Project (ACCMIP).
Abstract: . We present multi-model global datasets of nitrogen and sulfate deposition covering time periods from 1850 to 2100, calculated within the Atmospheric Chemistry and Climate Model Intercomparison Project (ACCMIP). The computed deposition fluxes are compared to surface wet deposition and ice core measurements. We use a new dataset of wet deposition for 2000–2002 based on critical assessment of the quality of existing regional network data. We show that for present day (year 2000 ACCMIP time slice), the ACCMIP results perform similarly to previously published multi-model assessments. For this time slice, we find a multi-model mean deposition of approximately 50 Tg(N) yr−1 from nitrogen oxide emissions, 60 Tg(N) yr−1 from ammonia emissions, and 83 Tg(S) yr−1 from sulfur emissions. The analysis of changes between 1980 and 2000 indicates significant differences between model and measurements over the United States but less so over Europe. This difference points towards a potential misrepresentation of 1980 NH3 emissions over North America. Based on ice core records, the 1850 deposition fluxes agree well with Greenland ice cores, but the change between 1850 and 2000 seems to be overestimated in the Northern Hemisphere for both nitrogen and sulfur species. Using the Representative Concentration Pathways (RCPs) to define the projected climate and atmospheric chemistry related emissions and concentrations, we find large regional nitrogen deposition increases in 2100 in Latin America, Africa and parts of Asia under some of the scenarios considered. Increases in South Asia are especially large, and are seen in all scenarios, with 2100 values more than double their 2000 counterpart in some scenarios and reaching > 1300 mg(N) m−2 yr−1 averaged over regional to continental-scale regions in RCP 2.6 and 8.5, ~ 30–50% larger than the values in any region currently (circa 2000). However, sulfur deposition rates in 2100 are in all regions lower than in 2000 in all the RCPs. The new ACCMIP multi-model deposition dataset provides state-of-the-science, consistent and evaluated time slice (spanning 1850–2100) global gridded deposition fields for use in a wide range of climate and ecological studies.

14 Nov 2009TL;DR: This work investigates the design and scalability of work stealing on modern distributed memory systems and demonstrates high efficiency and low overhead when scaling to 8,192 processors for three benchmark codes: a producer-consumer benchmark, the unbalanced tree search benchmark, and a multiresolution analysis kernel.
Abstract: Irregular and dynamic parallel applications pose significant challenges to achieving scalable performance on large-scale multicore clusters. These applications often require ongoing, dynamic load balancing in order to maintain efficiency. Scalable dynamic load balancing on large clusters is a challenging problem which can be addressed with distributed dynamic load balancing systems. Work stealing is a popular approach to distributed dynamic load balancing; however its performance on large-scale clusters is not well understood. Prior work on work stealing has largely focused on shared memory machines. In this work we investigate the design and scalability of work stealing on modern distributed memory systems. We demonstrate high efficiency and low overhead when scaling to 8,192 processors for three benchmark codes: a producer-consumer benchmark, the unbalanced tree search benchmark, and a multiresolution analysis kernel.

TL;DR: Pt-around-Au nanocomposite is synthesized using the electrostatic selfassembly method, and this catalyst shows significantly improved activity towards formic acid oxidation.
Abstract: Pt-around-Au nanocomposite is synthesized using the electrostatic selfassembly method. This catalyst shows significantly improved activity towards formic acid oxidation. The possible reason is the efficient spillover of HCOO from Au to the surrounding Pt NPs, where HCOO is further oxidized to CO2.
