TL;DR: This super-paramagnetic, dual-functionalized Janus nanocomposite enables effective tumor cell targeting and internalization via the folate receptor, and induces significant cancer cell death by controlled, stimulus-induced drug release under acidic conditions in endosomal compartments.
Abstract: Folic acid (FA) and doxorubicin (DOX) are coupled separately onto Fe3 O4 @SiO2 and polystyrene surfaces of a unique polystyrene/Fe3 O4 @SiO2 Janus structure. This super-paramagnetic, dual-functionalized Janus nanocomposite enables effective tumor cell targeting and internalization via the folate receptor, and induces significant cancer cell death by controlled, stimulus-induced drug release under acidic conditions in endosomal compartments.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors reviewed the trends of passive radiative cooling (PRC) techniques, as well as advancements in recent years, with an attempt being made to analyze the cooling magnitude and developmental prospects for both diurnal and nocturnal periods.
Abstract: The universe can be utilized as a sink for heat pumping by means of passive radiative cooling (PRC). This approach is an age-old cooling practice that has had a renaissance with increasing numbers of research papers over the past two decades. This paper reviews the trends of this technique, as well as advancements in recent years, with an attempt being made to analyze the cooling magnitude and developmental prospects for both diurnal and nocturnal periods. The models and calculations for computing the performances of passive radiative cooling systems are discussed along with the designs and fabrication factors that influence a system's performance. Optimizing strategies that maximize the net cooling power are also presented. The various system configurations that are available to date are summarized to demonstrate the building integration forms of PRC systems. The cooling potentials of different systems are assessed by simulations, and it is shown that the daytime cooling energy density is rather modest, even under the most favorable conditions. The barriers that likely exist to widespread application as well as the scopes for further improvements of PRC are also provided. It is noted that the commercialization of PRC systems is primarily limited by coating material constraints and technique reliability. The advent of a new type of material will be a critical solution to the prevalence of PRC.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that thermodynamic cloak can be achieved with homogeneous and finite conductivity only employing naturally available materials and the thermal localization inside the coating layer can be tuned and controlled robustly by anisotropy, which enables an incomplete cloak to function perfectly.
Abstract: Invisible cloak has long captivated the popular conjecture and attracted intensive research in various communities of wave dynamics, eg, optics, electromagnetics, acoustics, etc However, their inhomogeneous and extreme parameters imposed by transformation-optic method will usually require challenging realization with metamaterials, resulting in narrow bandwidth, loss, polarization-dependence, etc In this paper, we demonstrate that thermodynamic cloak can be achieved with homogeneous and finite conductivity only employing naturally available materials It is demonstrated that the thermal localization inside the coating layer can be tuned and controlled robustly by anisotropy, which enables an incomplete cloak to function perfectly Practical realization of such homogeneous thermal cloak has been suggested by using two naturally occurring conductive materials, which provides an unprecedentedly plausible way to flexibly realize thermal cloak and manipulate heat flow with phonons

TL;DR: The mechanisms and virtues of mixotrophic microalgae cultivation through comparison with other major cultivation modes are summarized and development of combining microalgal biodiesel production with wastewater treatment is especially reviewed.
Abstract: Biodiesel from microalgae provides a promising alternative for biofuel production. Microalgae can be produced under three major cultivation modes, namely photoautotrophic cultivation, heterotrophic cultivation, and mixotrophic cultivation. Potentials and practices of biodiesel production from microalgae have been demonstrated mostly focusing on photoautotrophic cultivation; mixotrophic cultivation of microalgae for biodiesel production has rarely been reviewed. This paper summarizes the mechanisms and virtues of mixotrophic microalgae cultivation through comparison with other major cultivation modes. Influencing factors of microalgal biodiesel production under mixotrophic cultivation are presented, development of combining microalgal biodiesel production with wastewater treatment is especially reviewed, and bottlenecks and strategies for future commercial production are also identified.
