TL;DR: A sliding window method for determining the storage period of profiles in VLR that maximises the throughput of GSM network is proposed and proves to be better than the existing set intersection method.
Abstract: The throughput of a global system for mobile GSM communications network is to be maximised for meeting effectively and efficiently the service requirements of ever increasing mobile subscriber's base. The period of temporary storage of subscribers' profiles in visitor location register VLR at a mobile switching centre MSC affects the throughput of GSM network. This research study proposes a sliding window method for determining the storage period of profiles in VLR that maximises the throughput of GSM network. The proposed method proves to be better than the existing set intersection method.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the influence of material properties, geometrical parameters and material composition on the photonic band gaps (PBG) and omnidirectional band gaps in one-dimensional photonic crystals made up of alternate layer of exponential graded index material and negative index material.
Abstract: We have investigated the photonic band gaps (PBG) and omnidirectional band gaps in one-dimensional photonic crystals made up of alternate layer of exponential graded index material and negative index material. We have considered the influence of material properties, geometrical parameters and material composition on the PBG and omnidirectional band gap. Results show that the parameters of exponential graded index material and negative index material can change the photonic and omnidirectional band structures remarkably. Number and bandwidth of PBG increases with increasing the negative index material layer thicknesses while thicknesses of graded index layer only have an effect on the bandwidth of PBGs. The bandwidth of PBG also depends on grading profile parameter of exponential graded index layers and bandwidth can be tuned with increase the value of grading profile parameter. This work can facilitate the design of filters and reflectors, and provide the basic understanding of the influence of graded ind...

TL;DR: A study of personality traits of humans based on usage of mobile apps, social media, handwriting analysis and facial expressions finds that personality traits categorization will give best results in the areas of medical and marketing.
Abstract: A cognitive structure focused to explain diverse behaviors of human regarding fixed and quantifiable features is called personality. Personality shows effects on various customs, traditions and daily routines. Big-five personality traits which is five-factor method contains agreeableness, extraversion, conscientiousness, openness, and neuroticism. This paper is a study of personality traits of humans based on usage of mobile apps, social media, handwriting analysis and facial expressions. By using this four methods people can be categorized into these five personality traits. This personality traits categorization will give best results in the areas of medical and marketing.

TL;DR: In this paper, the subsynchronous resonance (SSR) characteristics of the hybrid series compensated power system were analyzed and a simple method to damp the oscillations was proposed.
Abstract: Hybrid series compensation using static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) and passive series capacitor can improve the stability of the system, increases the power transfer capability. This paper analyzes the subsynchronous resonance (SSR) characteristics of the hybrid series compensated power system in detail and proposes a simple method to damp the oscillations. In this work, SSSC is modeled by a combination of three-level, 24 pulse configuration. Using the IEEE First Benchmark Model, the effectiveness of the proposed for mitigating SSR due to torsional interaction will be shown. The machine and circuit parameters are real values taken from the Navajo Project.

TL;DR: In this study, for the first time, hemocyanin from Pila virens, a fresh water gastropod endemic to Indian sub-continent was studied for its conformational stability in the presence of temperature and various detergents by different spectroscopic techniques viz.
Abstract: Gastropods are endowed with a soluble copper containing, blue coloured respiratory protein known as hemocyanin. In the present study, for the first time, hemocyanin from Pila virens, a fresh water gastropod endemic to Indian sub-continent was studied for its conformational stability in the presence of temperature and various detergents by different spectroscopic techniques viz. UV–Vis, fluorescence and circular dichroism spectroscopy. Results from UV–Vis spectroscopy revealed that, absorbance corresponding to active site moieties were decreased with increase in temperature from 30 to 70 °C. Whereas ‘thermal reversibility’ studies showed the increase in absorbance of active site with decrease in temperature from 70 to 20 °C (is an indicative of the characteristic feature of hemocyanins—that oxygen is reversibly bound to the copper in the active site). Results from CD spectroscopy revealed that the temperature-induced conformational changes on the secondary structure of hemocyanin was reversible up to 70 °C. Beyond 80 °C, the protein was completely denatured and assumed an increased random coil conformation. Hemocyanin in the presence of high concentration of detergents lost its structure as evident from UV–Vis fluorescence (evident from the red shifts in the emission maxima accompanied by quenching in emission intensities) and CD spectroscopy. Stability of active site moieties in the presence of different detergents was also studied by UV–Vis spectroscopy. The biophysical techniques gave insights into the varied effects of each of the different denaturants on the conformational stability of hemocyanin from Pila virens.
