TL;DR: Looking at plasma levels of asymmetric dimethylarginine, an important endogenous inhibitor of nitric oxide synthase, in populations at high risk for atherosclerosis as compared to healthy controls and individuals with hypercholesterolemia, found significantly elevated ADMA levels and reduced L-arg inine/ADMA ratios were found in individuals with diabetes type-1 as well as in hypercholesterololemia.

TL;DR: It is shown that Trx2 improves EC function and reduces atherosclerotic lesions in the apolipoprotein E-deficient mouse model and increases the capacities of ECs in scavenging reactive oxygen species generated from mitochondria, resulting in increases in NO bioavailability in ECs.
