Frequency domain equalization for single-carrier broadband wireless systems
TLDR
This article surveys frequency domain equalization (FDE) applied to single-carrier (SC) modulation solutions and discusses similarities and differences of SC and OFDM systems and coexistence possibilities, and presents examples of SC-FDE performance capabilities.Abstract:
Broadband wireless access systems deployed in residential and business environments are likely to face hostile radio propagation environments, with multipath delay spread extending over tens or hundreds of bit intervals. Orthogonal frequency-division multiplex (OFDM) is a recognized multicarrier solution to combat the effects of such multipath conditions. This article surveys frequency domain equalization (FDE) applied to single-carrier (SC) modulation solutions. SC radio modems with frequency domain equalization have similar performance, efficiency, and low signal processing complexity advantages as OFDM, and in addition are less sensitive than OFDM to RF impairments such as power amplifier nonlinearities. We discuss similarities and differences of SC and OFDM systems and coexistence possibilities, and present examples of SC-FDE performance capabilities.read more

Header Information Based Channel Estimation for Highly Modulated Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing Transmissions in IEEE 802.11ad
TL;DR: A regenerated header that is constructed from decoded header information is utilized to estimate frequency components of the CFR that cannot be estimated using the channel estimation field in the packet preamble, and by comparing the received and regenerated headers, the CFR components that are insufficiently estimated are fully estimated.

Widely linear SC-FDE systems for underwater acoustic communication: Experimental results
TL;DR: Experimental results for single carrier underwater communication systems using widely linear frequency domain equalization are presented and it is seen that when symbols from improper constellations are considered it is possible to obtain a performance gain in this scenario for different conditions if widely linear equalization is used.

Time-Domain Selected Mapping with Polyphase Rotations and Blind Detection for Filtered Single-Carrier Signals
Boonkajay Amnart,Adachi Fumiyuki +1 more
TL;DR: A time-domain selected mapping with maximum likelihood (ML) joint blind identification of phase rotation pattern and data detection is introduced and unlike the frequency-domain SLM (FD-SLM), polyphase rotations are used in order to allow the blind detection.

Analysis and Simulation of a Digital Mobile Channel Using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing
TL;DR: The analysis and simulation of a technique for combating the effects of multipath propagation and cochannel interference on a narrow-band digital mobile channel using the discrete Fourier transform to orthogonally frequency multiplex many narrow subchannels, each signaling at a very low rate, into one high-rate channel is discussed.
