Using adult guinea‐pigs, an experimental model in which alveolar surfactant phospholipids are removed by repeated lung lavage in viao, and in which the short‐term survival of the animals is ensured by artificial ventilation is proposed.Abstract:
Using adult guinea-pigs, we have developed an experimental model in which alveolar surfactant phospholipids are removed by repeated lung lavage in vivo, and in which the short-term survival of the animals is ensured by artificial ventilation. Blood gases, parameters of lung mechanics, and histologic and electron microscopic findings indicate that the lavage procedure induces a condition similar to the adult respiratory distress syndrome. We propose that our technique might be used for evaluation of pharmacological agents and various forms of artificial ventilation which have been suggested for treatment of this disease.read more

Modeling 18F-FDG Kinetics during Acute Lung Injury: Experimental Data and Estimation Errors
A. Susanne Dittrich,Tilo Winkler,Tyler J. Wellman,Nicolas de Prost,Guido Musch,R. Scott Harris,Marcos F. Vidal Melo +6 more
TL;DR: The four-compartment model provides more accurate quantification of 18F-FDG-kinetics than those methods in the presence of increased extra-vascular fluid, and can result in substantial estimation errors using the traditional Patlak and Sokoloff methods.

Artificial intelligence for closed-loop ventilation therapy with hemodynamic control using the open lung concept

TL;DR: This innovative closed-loop mechanical ventilation system leads to a significant improvement in oxygenation, regulates end-tidal carbon dioxide for appropriate gas exchange and stabilizes MAP to guarantee proper system control.

Repeated open endotracheal suctioning causes gradual desaturation but does not exacerbate lung injury compared to closed endotracheal suctioning in a rabbit model of ARDS.

TL;DR: Progressive arterial desaturation under conditions of repeated endotracheal suctioning is greater in OS than in CS time-dependently, however, OS does not exacerbate lung injury during mechanical ventilation when observed over a longer time span (6 hours), based on morphological and molecular analysis.

Experimental investigations in Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). Repeated pulmonary lavage in LEWE-mini-pigs: I. Pulmonary mechanics, gas exchange, and pulmonary hemodynamics
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors performed repeated pulmonary lavage to produce a state like ARDS by affecting the lung alveolar surfactant system which is included into the sum of factors which are responsible for the normal water balance of the alveolo-capillary membrane.

Effect of pulmonary lavage on lung lecithin synthesis in the Syrian hamster.
TL;DR: Bronchopulmonary lavage with 0.15 m saline stimulated the uptake of [1,2-14C]choline into both the surface-active dipalmitoyl lecithin (DPL) and the unsaturated leCithins (UPC) of Syrian hamster lung, consistent with the view that alveolar lecitins are secreted by the tissue into the alveoli and that unsaturatedLecithins are the precurs
