TLDR
Using adult guinea‐pigs, an experimental model in which alveolar surfactant phospholipids are removed by repeated lung lavage in viao, and in which the short‐term survival of the animals is ensured by artificial ventilation is proposed.Abstract:
Using adult guinea-pigs, we have developed an experimental model in which alveolar surfactant phospholipids are removed by repeated lung lavage in vivo, and in which the short-term survival of the animals is ensured by artificial ventilation. Blood gases, parameters of lung mechanics, and histologic and electron microscopic findings indicate that the lavage procedure induces a condition similar to the adult respiratory distress syndrome. We propose that our technique might be used for evaluation of pharmacological agents and various forms of artificial ventilation which have been suggested for treatment of this disease.read more

Differential impact of ultrasonically nebulized versus tracheal-instilled surfactant on ventilation-perfusion (VA/Q) mismatch in a model of acute lung injury.

TL;DR: It is concluded that low doses of ultrasonically delivered natural surfactant are similarly effective as "conventional" doses of tracheal-instilled surfactants in reducing shunt flow in an acute lung injury model, but exert more advantageous effects on ventilation perfusion matching.

TL;DR: LIRI seems an independent risk factor for the development of PAGF and resulted in progressive deterioration of lung function and architecture, leading to extensive immunopathological and functional abnormalities up to 3 months after reperfusion.

Chest position and pulmonary deposition of surfactant in surfactant depleted rabbits.
TL;DR: Pulmonary distribution of intratracheally instilled surfactant is largely determined by gravity, and changing the chest position after instillation does not result in any redistribution of the surfactan.

Partial liquid ventilation with small volumes of FC 3280 increases survival time in experimental ARDS
TL;DR: It is concluded that partial liquid ventilation with small volumes of FC 3280 provides improvement in gas exchange and increases survival time in experimental acute respiratory distress syndrome.

Surfactant inactivation and surfactant replacement in experimental models of ARDS.
TL;DR: The observations indicate that, in experimental ARDS, the effect of surfactant replacement depends on the type of animal model and, especially, on the degree of lung injury present at the time of therapy.

Effect of pulmonary lavage on lung lecithin synthesis in the Syrian hamster.
TL;DR: Bronchopulmonary lavage with 0.15 m saline stimulated the uptake of [1,2-14C]choline into both the surface-active dipalmitoyl lecithin (DPL) and the unsaturated leCithins (UPC) of Syrian hamster lung, consistent with the view that alveolar lecitins are secreted by the tissue into the alveoli and that unsaturatedLecithins are the precurs
