The first observation of stochastic resonance in an optical device, the bidirectional ring laser, is reported and the addition of injected noise can lead to an improved signal-to-noise ratio.
Abstract
We report the first observation of stochastic resonance in an optical device, the bidirectional ring laser. The experiment exploits a new technique to modulate periodically the asymmetry between the two counter-rotating lasing modes. The measurements verify that the addition of injected noise can lead to an improved signal-to-noise ratio (relative to that observed with no externally injected noise).

Application of stochastic resonance in bearing fault diagnosis

TL;DR: This paper presents an approach for detecting the initial failure of rolling bearings based on Stochastic Resonance (SR) combined with wavelet analysis, which uses wavelet transform to address the determination of noise intensity of input signal.

Direct Wireless Link to Out-of-Range Node With Assistance of Surrounding Nodes

TL;DR: It is revealed that the mutual information is enhanced owing to the interference signals, and the proposed method enlarges the radio coverage area of the source node, and there exists an optimal a priori probability of symbol transmission.

System Identification near a Hopf Bifurcation via the Noise-Induced Dynamics in the Fixed-Point Regime

Minwoo Lee
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented a system identification framework that exploits the noise-induced dynamics prior to a Hopf bifurcation, which is capable of predicting the hopf point and the post-hopf dynamics.

Control of noise-induced spatio-temporal dynamics in superlattices

TL;DR: It is shown that noise can induce current density oscillations which are associated with localized front motion around the stable xed point below the Hopf bifurcation, and control can not only enhance or deteriorate the regularity of stochastic spatio-temporal patterns but also allows for the manipulation of the system's time scales with varying time delay, in both dynamical regimes.
