The first observation of stochastic resonance in an optical device, the bidirectional ring laser, is reported and the addition of injected noise can lead to an improved signal-to-noise ratio.
Abstract
We report the first observation of stochastic resonance in an optical device, the bidirectional ring laser. The experiment exploits a new technique to modulate periodically the asymmetry between the two counter-rotating lasing modes. The measurements verify that the addition of injected noise can lead to an improved signal-to-noise ratio (relative to that observed with no externally injected noise).

Scaling Concepts in Periodically Modulated Noisy Systems

TL;DR: In this article, scaling arguments are used to analyze the dynamics of periodically modulated noisy systems, such as the signal-to-noise ratio, upon variations of the noise level, by analyzing the symmetries and invariances of the system.

The Impact of Static Disorder on Vibrational Resonance in a Ferroelectric Liquid Crystal

TL;DR: In this article, the concept of vibrational resonance was extended to a thermotropic bistable surface-stabilized ferroelectric liquid crystal cell and the impact of different origins of static disorder was investigated.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of the noise parameters (the multiplicative noise intensity D, the additive noise intensity α, the cross-correlated strength λ and the correlation time τ1, τ2 and τ3) are analyzed by numerical calculation.
