The first observation of stochastic resonance in an optical device, the bidirectional ring laser, is reported and the addition of injected noise can lead to an improved signal-to-noise ratio.
Abstract
We report the first observation of stochastic resonance in an optical device, the bidirectional ring laser. The experiment exploits a new technique to modulate periodically the asymmetry between the two counter-rotating lasing modes. The measurements verify that the addition of injected noise can lead to an improved signal-to-noise ratio (relative to that observed with no externally injected noise).

Stochastic Resonance and Ratchets: Two Closely Related Phenomena in Brownian Motors

TL;DR: In this paper, a simple flashing ratchet model is used to investigate both the power spectrum amplitude and the mean mobility of the system with increasing the noise intensity and both reach their highest point nearly at the same noise level.

Stochastic resonance induced by a multiplicative periodic signal in the gene transcriptional regulatory system with correlated noises

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the stochastic resonance induced by a multiplicative periodic signal in the gene transcriptional regulatory system with correlated noises and derived the expression of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).

Evaluation of a nonlinear bistable filter for binary signal detection

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that in degraded conditions, the nonlinear filter can catch up and surpass the performance of the matched filter, revealing a robustness superiority of the non linear filter, compared to the matchedfilter operating outside its strict nominal conditions.

An improved adaptive stochastic resonance with general scale transformation to extract high-frequency characteristics in strong noise

TL;DR: In this article, an improved adaptive stochastic resonance (SR) method is proposed to extract weak signal features, based on the idea of general scale transformation, which is introduced in detail.

Stochastic resonance in small-world neuronal networks with hybrid electrical-chemical synapses

TL;DR: It is found that increasing the rewiring probability can always enhance the stochastic resonance until it approaches the random network limit.
