The first observation of stochastic resonance in an optical device, the bidirectional ring laser, is reported and the addition of injected noise can lead to an improved signal-to-noise ratio.
Abstract
We report the first observation of stochastic resonance in an optical device, the bidirectional ring laser. The experiment exploits a new technique to modulate periodically the asymmetry between the two counter-rotating lasing modes. The measurements verify that the addition of injected noise can lead to an improved signal-to-noise ratio (relative to that observed with no externally injected noise).

Optimal weighted suprathreshold stochastic resonance with multigroup saturating sensors

TL;DR: It is found that optimally weighting the sensor responses provides a lower MSE in comparison with the unweighted case for weak and moderate noise intensities, which indicates that SSR with optimal weights, as a general mechanism of enhancement by noise, is of potential interest to signal recovery.

Signal Detection Based on Second-Order Underdamped Tristable Stochastic Resonance and Its Application to Weak Fault Diagnosis

TL;DR: The results show that, in the background of strong noise, the SUTSR system can accurately identify the characteristic frequency of the fault signal and then greatly improve the energy of the weak fault signal under appropriate system parameters.

Stochastic and coherence resonance in an in silico neural model.

TL;DR: A model of coupled nonlinear oscillators which emulates the transmembrane voltage activities in CA3 neurons, operating in a chaotic regime and in the presence of noise, can exhibit coherence resonance and stochastic resonance.

Numerical analysis of stochastic resonance by method of stochastic energetics

TL;DR: In this paper, the work done by the external agent which drives the potential to fluctuate periodically is shown to be a good quantitative measure to detect stochastic resonance (SR).

Relaxation and Resonance in Brownian Motion-Coupled Resonators

Christin Rhen
TL;DR: In this article, the dynamics of coupled oscillator-diffusion systems, in different contexts, were investigated, and the resonant response of the circuit was found to be multistable, an effect that becomes more pronounced the weaker the noise.
