The first observation of stochastic resonance in an optical device, the bidirectional ring laser, is reported and the addition of injected noise can lead to an improved signal-to-noise ratio.Abstract:
We report the first observation of stochastic resonance in an optical device, the bidirectional ring laser. The experiment exploits a new technique to modulate periodically the asymmetry between the two counter-rotating lasing modes. The measurements verify that the addition of injected noise can lead to an improved signal-to-noise ratio (relative to that observed with no externally injected noise).read more

Towards an understanding of escape rate and state dependent diffusion for a quantum dissipative system
TL;DR: In this paper, an open quantum system coupled to a heat reservoir that is driven out of thermal equilibrium by an external noise is considered. But the authors focus on the effects and consequences of the nonlinear interaction stemming out of the system-bath coupling alongside the modulation of the bath by external noise on the rate expression.

Time-delayed feedback control of stochastic resonance induced by a multiplicative signal in a bistable system driven by cross-correlated noises
TL;DR: A linear time-delayed feedback is introduced into the bistable system driven by cross-correlated noises to control the stochastic resonance (SR) induced by the multiplicative periodic signal and the effects of the delay time and strength of its feedback on the SNR are analyzed.

Electromagnetic field absorption in stochastic cellular systems: enhanced signal detection in ion channels and calcium oscillators
John Sandblom,Juris Galvanovskis +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the possibilities for signal amplification relative to noise in those parts of the cellular calcium signalling pathway which constitute stochastic and chaotic processes, and found that the most sensitive part in the chain of reactions involved in Ca 2+ oscillations was the Ca 2 + release from internal stores by calcium-induced calcium release.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors summarize the recent results on nonlinear dynamics of vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) which are bearing the fingerprints of the particular polarization properties of VCSELs.

Stochastic resonance in a periodic potential system under a constant force
TL;DR: In this paper, an overdamped particle moving in a periodic potential, and subject to a constant force and a stochastic force (i.e., x =− sin (2πx)+B+Γ(t), Γ (t) is a white noise) is considered.
