The first observation of stochastic resonance in an optical device, the bidirectional ring laser, is reported and the addition of injected noise can lead to an improved signal-to-noise ratio.
Abstract
We report the first observation of stochastic resonance in an optical device, the bidirectional ring laser. The experiment exploits a new technique to modulate periodically the asymmetry between the two counter-rotating lasing modes. The measurements verify that the addition of injected noise can lead to an improved signal-to-noise ratio (relative to that observed with no externally injected noise).

Experimental Observation of Internal Signal Stochastic Resonance in the Belousov-Zhabotinsky Reaction

TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that when the flow rate is perturbed by stochastic noise, noise-induced oscillations are observed, and two closely spaced, large-amplitude spikes appear nearly periodically at the proper noise level.

Stochastic resonance in Hopfield neural networks for transmitting binary signals

TL;DR: When the binary signals are corrupted by external heavy-tailed noise, it is found that the Hopfield neural network with a large number of neurons can outperform the matched filter in the region of low input signal-to-noise ratios per bit.

Stochastic resonance in linear system driven by multiplicative and additive noise

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of additive noise and multiplicative noise on signal-to-ratio (SNR) were studied in an overdamped linear system driven by multiplicative and additive noise.

Stochastic resonance in an optical bistable system driven by colored noise

TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the dependence of the resonance signal on the noise correlation time and numerically simulated it using a bistable potential and exponentially correlated Gaussian noise.
