The first observation of stochastic resonance in an optical device, the bidirectional ring laser, is reported and the addition of injected noise can lead to an improved signal-to-noise ratio.
Abstract
We report the first observation of stochastic resonance in an optical device, the bidirectional ring laser. The experiment exploits a new technique to modulate periodically the asymmetry between the two counter-rotating lasing modes. The measurements verify that the addition of injected noise can lead to an improved signal-to-noise ratio (relative to that observed with no externally injected noise).

Inhomogeneous quantum diffusion and decay of a meta-stable state

TL;DR: In this article, the role of the space-dependent friction and diffusion has been examined in the decay rate of a particle from a meta-stable well, showing how the particle decay rate can be hindered by inhomogeneous dissipation due to nonlinear system-bath coupling strength.

Stochastic resonance in a laser with saturable absorber

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the occurrence of stochastic resonance (SR) in a laser with saturable absorber, a non-linear optical system presenting optical bistability and self-pulsed regimes for the laser output intensity.

Bearing Fault Diagnosis Based on Unsaturated Piecewise Non-linear Bistable Stochastic Resonance under Trichotomous Noise

TL;DR: The classical bistable stochastic resonance (CBSR) has the disadvantage of output saturation, which limits the enhancement capability for weak signal detection as mentioned in this paper, and thus it is unsuitable for strong signal detection.

The Adaptive Stochastic Resonance Signal Detection System Based on the Multi-Point Random Search Algorithm

TL;DR: A model of adaptive stochastic resonance system based on the multi-point random search algorithm is proposed, and a weak signal detection system of adaptiveStochastic resonance is established on the LabVIEW development platform.

Levy noise-driven stochastic resonance in a coupled monostable system

TL;DR: Treating the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) as the signal quality index, the stochastic resonance (SR) phenomenon in a coupled monostable system (CMS) is investigated and the SR induced by the CMS is greater than that for a monostables system.
