TLDR
The first observation of stochastic resonance in an optical device, the bidirectional ring laser, is reported and the addition of injected noise can lead to an improved signal-to-noise ratio.Abstract:
We report the first observation of stochastic resonance in an optical device, the bidirectional ring laser. The experiment exploits a new technique to modulate periodically the asymmetry between the two counter-rotating lasing modes. The measurements verify that the addition of injected noise can lead to an improved signal-to-noise ratio (relative to that observed with no externally injected noise).read more

Detection of weak signals using adaptive stochastic resonance
A.S. Asdi,A.H. Tewfik +1 more
TL;DR: A novel nonlinear filtering approach for detecting weak signals in heavy noise from short data records is presented and it is shown that by adaptively selecting the parameters of the system, it is possible to increase the ratio of the square of the amplitude of a sinusoid to that of the noise intensity around the frequency of the sinusoids.

Stochastic Resonance in Chemistry. 3. The Minimal-Bromate Reaction
TL;DR: The measurement of stochastic resonance in the minimal-bromate (MB) reaction is reported, which shows an optimal noise level exists at which the periodic signal is optimally detected via the spiking behavior of the reaction.

Effect of asymmetry on stochastic resonance and stochastic resonance induced by multiplicative noise and by mean-field coupling.
TL;DR: It is shown that for the first model, the asymmetry of the potential can weaken the phenomenon of SR; for the second and third models, a SR induced by multiplicative noise and a different one caused by mean-field coupling are found.

Stochastic resonance in chemistry. 2. the peroxidase-oxidase reaction
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that the phenomenon of stochastic resonance exists in the enzymatic peroxidase−oxyidase reaction, where the free-running system is placed in an excitable steady state close to a supercritical Hopf bifurcation.

Multistability phenomenon in signal processing, energy harvesting, composite structures, and metamaterials: A review
TL;DR: Multistability is the phenomenon of multiple coexistent stable states, which are highly sensitive to perturbations, initial conditions, system parameters, etc. Multistability has been widely found in various scientific areas including biology, physics, chemistry, climatology, sociology, and ecology as mentioned in this paper .
