The first observation of stochastic resonance in an optical device, the bidirectional ring laser, is reported and the addition of injected noise can lead to an improved signal-to-noise ratio.
Abstract
We report the first observation of stochastic resonance in an optical device, the bidirectional ring laser. The experiment exploits a new technique to modulate periodically the asymmetry between the two counter-rotating lasing modes. The measurements verify that the addition of injected noise can lead to an improved signal-to-noise ratio (relative to that observed with no externally injected noise).

Constructive action of additive noise in optimal detection

TL;DR: Optimization of the quantization threshold shows that even in symmetric detection settings, the optimal threshold can be away from the center of symmetry and in subthreshold configuration of the signals.

Trichotomous noise induced stochastic resonance in a fractional oscillator with random damping and random frequency

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the stochastic resonance (SR) of a fractional linear oscillator subjected to multiplicative trichotomous noise and additive fractional Gaussian noise and driven by a periodic signal.

Far from equilibrium percolation, stochastic and shape resonances in the physics of life.

Stochastic resonance and superharmonic resonance of a noisy confined overdamped bistable system

TL;DR: This paper considered an overdamped bistable system excited by a periodic driving force and an additive Gaussian white noise in the presence of constant restricted boundaries, and studied the response and SR phenomena of this confined system from the perspectives of limit cycle and potential function.

Colored-noise-induced chaotic array synchronization.

TL;DR: The effect of a time-correlatedGaussian noise on one-dimensional arrays consisting of diffusively coupled chaotic cells is analyzed and a resonance effect between the time scale of the chaotic attractor and the colored Gaussian noise has been found.
