The first observation of stochastic resonance in an optical device, the bidirectional ring laser, is reported and the addition of injected noise can lead to an improved signal-to-noise ratio.
Abstract
We report the first observation of stochastic resonance in an optical device, the bidirectional ring laser. The experiment exploits a new technique to modulate periodically the asymmetry between the two counter-rotating lasing modes. The measurements verify that the addition of injected noise can lead to an improved signal-to-noise ratio (relative to that observed with no externally injected noise).

Noise-invoked resonances near a homoclinic bifurcation in the glow discharge plasma.

TL;DR: Induction of SR and CR is quantified using the absolute mean difference and normalized variance techniques, respectively and it is realized that even in the absence of a subthreshold deterministic signal, the system dynamics can be recovered and optimized using noise.

Stochastic resonance in a fractional linear oscillator subject to random viscous damping and signal-modulated noise

TL;DR: The stochastic resonance in a fractional linear system with random viscous damping driven by a dichotomous noise and signal-modulated noise is investigated in this article.

Stochastic resonance : linear response and giant nonlinearity

TL;DR: In this paper, the response of a bistable noise-driven system to a weak periodic force is investigated using linear response theory (LRT) and by analogue electronic experiment, both theoretically and experimentally, that a phase lagφ between the force and the response passes through a maximum whenD is tuned through the range where stochastic resonance (SR) occurs.

Stochastic resonance in a linear system with random damping parameter driven by trichotomous noise

TL;DR: In this article, a second-order linear system driven by a trichotomous noise and an external periodic signal is investigated, and the exact expression for the output spectral amplification (SPA) of the system is obtained.

Dynamical complexity and stochastic resonance in a bistable system with time delay

TL;DR: It has been found that for an optimal level of noise intensity, the statistical complexity measure displays a maximum and the normalized Shannon entropy exhibits a minimum, which demonstrates not only the occurrence of SR but also the severity of dynamical complexity.
