The first observation of stochastic resonance in an optical device, the bidirectional ring laser, is reported and the addition of injected noise can lead to an improved signal-to-noise ratio.
Abstract
We report the first observation of stochastic resonance in an optical device, the bidirectional ring laser. The experiment exploits a new technique to modulate periodically the asymmetry between the two counter-rotating lasing modes. The measurements verify that the addition of injected noise can lead to an improved signal-to-noise ratio (relative to that observed with no externally injected noise).

Stochastic resonance in MoS2 photodetector.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that weak periodic LED signals, which are otherwise undetectable, can be detected by a MoS2 photodetector in the presence of a finite and optimum amount of white Gaussian noise at a frugal energy expenditure of few tens of nano-Joules.

Enhancement of stochastic resonance in a FitzHugh-Nagumo neuronal model driven by colored noise

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate the stochastic resonance in a FitzHugh-Nagumo neuronal model driven by colored noise with a 1 f β spectrum (0 ≤ β ≤ 2), and show that the noise intensity needed to maximize the coherence between input and output signals is the smallest when β ≈ 1.

The Effects of Time Delay on Stochastic Resonance in a Bistable System with Correlated Noises

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of time delay on stochastic resonance (SR) in a bistable system with time delay, correlated noises and periodic signal are studied by using the theory of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).

Intrawell stochastic resonance versus interwell stochastic resonance in underdamped bistable systems

TL;DR: It is shown that, for periodically driven noisy underdamped bistable systems, an intrawell stochastic resonance can exist, together with the conventional interwell stochastics resonance, resulting in a double maximum in the power spectral amplitude at the forcing frequency as a function of the noise intensity.

Noise-Enhanced Detection of Subthreshold Signals With Carbon Nanotubes

TL;DR: Experiments on a single-walled carbon nanotube transistor confirmed that a threshold exhibited stochastic resonance (SR) for finite-variance and infinite-Variance noise: small amounts of noise enhanced the nanotubes detector's performance.
