The first observation of stochastic resonance in an optical device, the bidirectional ring laser, is reported and the addition of injected noise can lead to an improved signal-to-noise ratio.
Abstract
We report the first observation of stochastic resonance in an optical device, the bidirectional ring laser. The experiment exploits a new technique to modulate periodically the asymmetry between the two counter-rotating lasing modes. The measurements verify that the addition of injected noise can lead to an improved signal-to-noise ratio (relative to that observed with no externally injected noise).

Stochastic resonance in an asymmetric bistable system driven by multiplicative and additive Gaussian noise and its application in bearing fault detection

TL;DR: In this article, a new asymmetric bistable model with an asymmetric term is proposed based on traditional bistability model and the influence of system parameters on the asymmetric Bistable potential function is studied.

Stochastic resonance and the homoeopathic effect

TL;DR: In this paper, stochastic resonance, a non-linear response of certain systems when perturbed by noise and a weak periodic signal, which increasingly enhanced at the output as the magnitude of the noise grows towards an optimal value for maximum signal amplification, is considered.

Noise-aided processing: revisiting ditheringin a /spl Sigma//spl Delta/ quantizer

TL;DR: It is shown that quantizing a sine, which means adding a small amount of noise in the input, can improve the quantization process, and the output local signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) exhibits a maximum when plotted against the noise amplitude.

Stochastic multiresonance in coupled excitable FHN neurons.

TL;DR: It is revealed that the occurrence of stochastic multiresonance in the studied neuronal networks has close relationship with the period of subthreshold signal Te and the noise-induced mean period of the neuronal networks T0.

Effects of hybrid synapses on the vibrational resonance in small-world neuronal networks.

TL;DR: It is shown that, irrespective of the probability of chemical synapses, an optimal amplitude of high-frequency part of the signal can optimize the dynamical response of neuron populations to the low-frequency component, which encodes the information.
