The first observation of stochastic resonance in an optical device, the bidirectional ring laser, is reported and the addition of injected noise can lead to an improved signal-to-noise ratio.Abstract:
We report the first observation of stochastic resonance in an optical device, the bidirectional ring laser. The experiment exploits a new technique to modulate periodically the asymmetry between the two counter-rotating lasing modes. The measurements verify that the addition of injected noise can lead to an improved signal-to-noise ratio (relative to that observed with no externally injected noise).read more

Noise Benefits in Expectation-Maximization Algorithms.
TL;DR: It is shown that careful injection of noise into sample data can substantially speed up Expectation-Maximization algorithms and a theorem guaranteeing that uniform approximators for Bayesian model functions produce uniform approxIMators for the posterior pdf via Bayes theorem is found.

A Study on Additional-signal-enhanced Stochastic Resonance in Detecting Weak Signals
TL;DR: A novel approach of detecting weak periodic signal using additional-signal-enhanced SR(ASESR) is presented, and the weak sinusoid signal of low signal-to-noise ratio can be extracted from heavy noise.

Hysteresis effects in the two-mode dye ring laser
Edward C. Gage,Leonard Mandel +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the hysteresis results from the laser's attempts to switch among metastable states in response to the external stimulus, and the results are in general agreement with computer solutions of the equations of motion and are related to recent work on stochastic resonance in a dye ring laser.

Anormal diffusion enhancement of resonant responses for coupled oscillator networks to weak signals.
Chenggui Yao,Zhiwei He +1 more
TL;DR: The normal diffusion effect is introduced as a new regulating factor into the established diffusive coupling model for bistable oscillator networks and the response of the system to the weak signal is substantially enhanced by the anormal diffusion, which is termed anormal-diffusion-induced resonance.
