Journal ArticleDOI
Revealing the genetic structure of a trait by sequencing a population under selection
Leopold Parts,Francisco A. Cubillos,Jonas Warringer,Kanika Jain,Francisco Salinas,Suzannah Bumpstead,Mikael Molin,Amin Zia,Jared T. Simpson,Michael A. Quail,Alan M. Moses,Edward J. Louis,Richard Durbin,Gianni Liti +13 more
TL;DR: Surprisingly, at most selected loci, allele frequencies stopped changing before the end of the selection experiment, but alleles did not become fixed, similar to what is seen for complex trait genetics in other diploid organisms such as humans.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gene expression changes with age in skin, adipose tissue, blood and brain.
Daniel Glass,Daniel Glass,Ana Viñuela,Matthew N. Davies,Adaikalavan Ramasamy,Leopold Parts,David A. Knowles,Andrew A. Brown,Åsa K. Hedman,Kerrin S. Small,Kerrin S. Small,Alfonso Buil,Elin Grundberg,Elin Grundberg,Alexandra C. Nica,Paola Di Meglio,Frank O. Nestle,Mina Ryten,Richard Durbin,Mark I. McCarthy,Mark I. McCarthy,Panagiotis Deloukas,Emmanouil T. Dermitzakis,Michael E. Weale,Veronique Bataille,Tim D. Spector +25 more
TL;DR: Skin showed the most age-related gene expression changes of all the tissues investigated, with many of the genes being previously implicated in fatty acid metabolism, mitochondrial activity, cancer and splicing.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ensembl 2002: accommodating comparative genomics
Michele Clamp,D. Andrews,Daniel Barker,Paul Bevan,Graham Cameron,Yuan Chen,Louise Clark,Tony Cox,James Cuff,Val Curwen,Thomas A. Down,Richard Durbin,Eduardo Eyras,James G. R. Searle,Guy Slater,James Smith,William Spooner,Arne Stabenau,Jim Stalker,Elia Stupka,Abel Ureta-Vidal,Imre Vastrik,Ewan Birney +35 more
TL;DR: The Ensembl database project provides a bioinformatics framework to organise biology around the sequences of large genomes, a comprehensive source of stable automatic annotation of human, mouse and other genome sequences, available as either an interactive web site or as flat files.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The finished sequence and biological annotation of human chromosome 1 is reported, which reveals patterns of sequence variation that reveal signals of recent selection in specific genes that may contribute to human fitness, and also in regions where no function is evident.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prepublication data sharing.

TL;DR: Rapid release of prepublication data has served the field of genomics well and should be extended to other biological data sets, say attendees at a workshop in Toronto.
