SIRT1 regulates macrophage self‐renewal

TL;DR: It is shown that SIRT1, an evolutionary conserved regulator of life span, positively affects macrophage self‐renewal ability in vitro and in vivo, and suggests that macrophages self‐Renewal might be a relevant parameter of ageing.

TL;DR: Nature Immunology’s 20th anniversary is a good opportunity to reminisce about the ImmGen collective endeavor — its goals, successes and horror stories — and the group's exploration of various modes of scientific publishing.
Journal ArticleDOI

Long-term culture-expanded alveolar macrophages restore their full epigenetic identity after transfer in vivo

TL;DR: Sieweke et al. as mentioned in this paper showed that long-term ex vivo expanded AMs (exAMs) maintained a core AM gene expression program, but showed culture adaptations related to adhesion, metabolism and proliferation.

Open Source ImmGen: network perspective on metabolic diversity among mononuclear phagocytes

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that interference with this pathway through statins administration diminishes migratory capacity of the dendritic cells in vivo, which demonstrates the power of the approach and highlights importance of metabolic diversity among mononuclear phagocytes.
