Journal Article
No association between the brain-derived neurotrophic factor 196 G>A or 270 C>T polymorphisms and Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease.
Marika Saarela,Terho Lehtimäki,Juha O. Rinne,Heini Huhtala,Riikka Rontu,Antti Hervonen,Matias Röyttä,Jukka-Pekka Ahonen,Kari M. Mattila +8 more
TL;DR: The BDNF gene does not contribute significantly to the risk of AD or PD in Finnish patients, and no interaction between either BDNF polymorphism and the e4 allele of apolipoprotein E was found.
Journal ArticleDOI
A moderate dose of red wine, but not de-alcoholized red wine increases coronary flow reserve
Tuomas Kiviniemi,Antti Saraste,Jyri Toikka,Jyri Toikka,Markku Saraste,Olli T. Raitakari,Jussi P. Pärkkä,Terho Lehtimäki,Jaakko Hartiala,Jorma Viikari,Juha Koskenvuo +10 more
TL;DR: A moderate dose of red wine, but not de-alcoholized red wine increases CFR, and the increase is probably mediated by other than direct antioxidant properties of polyphenols, because the simultaneous increase of CFR and plasma antioxidant capacity were not associated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Electronic Nose in the Detection of Wound Infection Bacteria from Bacterial Cultures: A Proof-of-Principle Study.
Taavi Saviauk,Juha Kiiski,Maarit K Nieminen,Nelly N Tamminen,Antti Roine,Pekka Kumpulainen,Lauri Hokkinen,Markus Karjalainen,Risto Vuento,Janne Aittoniemi,Terho Lehtimäki,Niku Oksala +11 more
TL;DR: The results support the concept of rapid detection of the most relevant bacteria causing wound infections and ultimately differentiating MRSA from MSSA utilizing gaseous headspace sampling with an eNose.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prediction of Adulthood Obesity Using Genetic and Childhood Clinical Risk Factors in the Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study
Fatemeh Seyednasrollah,Johanna Mäkelä,Niina Pitkänen,Markus Juonala,Nina Hutri-Kähönen,Terho Lehtimäki,Jorma Viikari,Tanika Kelly,Changwei Li,Lydia A. Bazzano,Laura L. Elo,Olli T. Raitakari +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors assess the use of childhood clinical data to predict obesity risk factors for cardiovascular disease, and assess the effectiveness of early prediction of obesity in early childhood development.
Journal ArticleDOI
TPH2 polymorphisms may modify clinical picture in treatment-resistant depression
Sami Anttila,Merja Viikki,Kaija Huuhka,Martti Huuhka,Heini Huhtala,Riikka Rontu,Terho Lehtimäki,Esa Leinonen +7 more
TL;DR: ECT may able to counteract a putative genetically driven worse depressive phenotype, and may be associated with the severity of treatment-resistant depression.
