TL;DR: More than 100 macrofossil species have been described from Miaohe shales, but in an examination of published and new materials, they recognize only about twenty distinct taxa, including Aggregatosphaera miaoheensis new gen. and sp. minor as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: Carbonaceous compression fossils in shales of the uppermost Doushantuo Formation (ca. 555–590 Ma) at Miaohe in the Yangtze Gorges area provide a rare Burgess-Shale-type taphonomic window on terminal Proterozoic biology. More than 100 macrofossil species have been described from Miaohe shales, but in an examination of published and new materials, we recognize only about twenty distinct taxa, including Aggregatosphaera miaoheensis new gen. and sp. Most of these fossils can be interpreted unambiguously as colonial prokaryotes or multicellular algae. Phylogenetically derived coenocytic green algae appear to be present, as do regularly bifurcating thalli comparable to red and brown algae. At least five species have been interpreted as metazoans by previous workers. Of these, Protoconites minor and Calyptrina striata most closely resemble animal remains; either or both could be the organic sheaths of cnidarian scyphopolyps, although an algal origin cannot be ruled out for P. minor. Despite exceptional ...

TL;DR: In this article, a novel covalent triazine framework (CTF-0) was prepared by trimerization of 1,3,5-tricyanobenzene in molten ZnCl2.
Abstract: A novel covalent triazine framework (CTF-0) was prepared by trimerization of 1,3,5-tricyanobenzene in molten ZnCl2. The monomer/ZnCl2 ratio, the reaction time, and temperature significantly influence the structure and porosity of such networks. XRD measurements revealed that crystalline frameworks can be formed with surface areas around 500 m2·g–1 and high CO2 uptakes. Increasing the reaction temperature yielded an amorphous material with an enlarged surface area of 2000 m2·g–1. This material showed good catalytic activity for CO2 cycloaddition.

TL;DR: The EuMon project conducted a large-scale evaluation of monitoring practices in Europethroughanon-linequestionnaireandisreportingontheresultheresultsofthissurvey as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: Without robust and unbiased systems for monitoring, changes in natural systems will remain enigmatic for policy makers, leaving them without a clear idea of the consequences of any environmental policies they might adopt. Generally, biodiversity-monitoring activities are not integrated or evaluated across any large geographic region. The EuMon project conducted the first large-scale evaluation of monitoring practices inEuropethroughanon-linequestionnaireandisreportingontheresultsofthissurvey.InSeptember 2007 the EuMon project had documented 395 monitoring schemes for species, which represents a total annual cost of about €4 million, involving more than 46,000 persons devoting over 148,000 person-days/year to biodiversity-monitoring activities. Here we focused on the analysis of variations of monitoring practices across a set of taxonomic groups (birds, amphibians and reptiles, mammals, butterflies, plants, and other insects) and across 5 European countries (France, Germany, Hungary, Lithuania, and Poland). Our results suggest that the overall sampling effort of a scheme is linked with the proportion of volunteers involved in that scheme. Because precision is a function of the number of monitored sites and the number of sites is maximized by volunteer involvement, our results do not support the common belief that volunteer-based schemes are too noisy to be informative. Just the opposite, we believe volunteer-based schemes provide relatively reliable data,

TL;DR: NLEVP serves both to illustrate the tremendous variety of applications of nonlinear eigenvalue problems and to provide representative problems for testing, tuning, and benchmarking of algorithms and codes.
Abstract: We present a collection of 52 nonlinear eigenvalue problems in the form of a MATLAB toolbox. The collection contains problems from models of real-life applications as well as ones constructed specifically to have particular properties. A classification is given of polynomial eigenvalue problems according to their structural properties. Identifiers based on these and other properties can be used to extract particular types of problems from the collection. A brief description of each problem is given. NLEVP serves both to illustrate the tremendous variety of applications of nonlinear eigenvalue problems and to provide representative problems for testing, tuning, and benchmarking of algorithms and codes.
