TL;DR: Investigation of whether plasma concentrations of antibody corresponding to relatively modest neutralization titers in vitro could protect macaques from repeated intravaginal exposure to low doses of a simian immunodeficiency virus–HIV chimera that uses the CC chemokine receptor 5 (CCR5) co-receptor suggests lower amounts of antibody than previously considered protective may provide benefit in the context of typical human exposure to HIV-1.
Abstract: Neutralizing antibodies are thought to be crucial for HIV vaccine protection, but studies in animal models suggest that high antibody concentrations are required. This is a major potential hurdle for vaccine design. However, these studies typically apply a large virus inoculum to ensure infection in control animals in single-challenge experiments. In contrast, most human infection via sexual encounter probably involves repeated exposures to much lower doses of virus. Therefore, animal studies may have provided an overestimate of the levels of antibodies required for protection in humans. We investigated whether plasma concentrations of antibody corresponding to relatively modest neutralization titers in vitro could protect macaques from repeated intravaginal exposure to low doses of a simian immunodeficiency virus-HIV chimera (SHIV) that uses the CC chemokine receptor 5 (CCR5) co-receptor. An effector function-deficient variant of the neutralizing antibody was also included. The results show that a substantially larger number of challenges is required to infect macaques treated with neutralizing antibody than control antibody-treated macaques, and support the notion that effector function may contribute to antibody protection. Overall, the results imply that lower amounts of antibody than previously considered protective may provide benefit in the context of typical human exposure to HIV-1.

TL;DR: This article investigated boundary conditions for the IKEA effect and found that labor leads to love only when labor results in successful completion of tasks; when participants built and then destroyed their creations, or failed to complete them, the effect dissipated.

TL;DR: It is shown that murine tumor necrosis factor alpha labeled with 125I (I-mTNF alpha) crosses the blood-brain barrier (BBB) after i.v. injection, suggesting that TNF alpha is sequestered by the brain.

TL;DR: The data suggest that combination treatment with once-daily metformin-rosiglitazone improves glycemic control, insulin sensitivity, and beta-cell function more effectively than treatment with met formin alone.
Abstract: Context Most antidiabetic agents target only 1 of several underlying causes of diabetes. The complementary actions of the antidiabetic agents metformin hydrochloride and rosiglitazone maleate may maintain optimal glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes; therefore, their combined use may be indicated for patients whose diabetes is poorly controlled by metformin alone. Objective To evaluate the efficacy of metformin-rosiglitazone therapy in patients whose type 2 diabetes is inadequately controlled with metformin alone.

TL;DR: The hypothalamic polypeptide growth-hormone release-inhibiting hormone (G.H.R.I.H.) inhibited gastrin release in all subjects studied and greatly lowered plasma-gastrin concentrations and almost totally suppressed gastric-acid production.
