Abstract: We reconsider various approaches to the quantum theory of photodetection from the point of view of the quantum theory of measurement, and show that important differences between them depend upon the manner in which they take into account the modification of the field distribution produced by the presence of the detector. We show that the Mandel photon counting formula may lead to unphysical results, such as negative probabilities, in some situations just because this modification is not incorporated into the model. We also show that the recently developed quantum theory of continuous measurements provides a completely satisfactory framework for discussing photon counting experiments. As an illustration, an exact derivation of the photon statistics of a single-mode free field is presented, and some of the results are shown to be identical to those derived earlier by Mollow and others. Abstract: In the present study, the geochemical characteristics of groundwater and drinking water quality has been studied. 24 groundwater samples were collected and analyzed for pH, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, carbonate, bicarbonate, chloride, sulphate, nitrate, calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium and total hardness. The results were evaluated and compared with WHO and BIS water quality standards. The studied results reveal that the groundwater is fresh to brackish and moderately high to hard in nature. Na and Cl are dominant ions among cations and anions. Chloride, calcium and magnesium ions are within the allowable limit except few samples. According to Gibbs diagram, the predominant samples fall in the rock–water interaction dominance and evaporation dominance field. The piper trilinear diagram shows that groundwater samples are Na–Cl and mixed CaMgCl type. Based on the WQI results majority of the samples are falling under excellent to good category and suitable for drinking water purposes.

Abstract: Halotolerant microalga Dunaliella, which is exploited for the production of dried biomass or cell extract, is used as a medicinal food. With the advancement in this field in recent years, the production of bio-organic compounds such as β-carotene is established in many countries. Large-scale production of β-carotene is controlled by numerous stress factors like high light intensity, high salinity, temperature and availability of nutrients. The state-of-the-art strategies in industries in closed systems under new set of inductive factors will additionally promote the ease of commercial production of β-carotene. This review mainly focuses on the different methodologies employed recently for the optimum production of β-carotene from Dunaliella species.
