TL;DR: Leaf explants of Jatropha curcas cultured on Murashige and Skoog’s medium supplemented with thidiazuron (TDZ) in combination with indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) produced adventitious shoot buds directly on the surface of the explants without formation of intervening callus.
Abstract: Leaf explants of Jatropha curcas cultured on Murashige and Skoog’s (MS) medium supplemented with thidiazuron (TDZ; 0.90 μM) in combination with indole-3-butyric acid (IBA; 0.98μM) produced adventitious shoot buds directly on the surface of the explants without formation of intervening callus while shoot bud formation was accompanied with callus formation on medium supplemented with 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP; 13.3 μM) and IBA (2.46 μM). TDZ treatment resulted in more than twice higher rate of shoot bud induction than BAP. Shoot buds were multiplied and elongated following repeated transfers to medium containing BAP (2.22 μM) and gibberellic acid (GA3; 1.44 μM). The effect of copper sulphate on differentiation of shoot buds from leaf segments was also investigated. Both shoot induction and multiplication media were supplemented with different levels of CuSO4 (0–5 μM). Significant improvement in shoot bud induction was observed when the concentration of CuSO4 was increased to 10 times the normal MS level. Healthy elongated shoots were rooted on half strength MS medium supplemented with IBA (2.46 μM). Rooted plantlets were transferred to field and survived. Histological analysis revealed direct formation of shoot buds from leaf explants.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors derived equations for ion-acoustic waves governing the evolution of first-and second-order potentials in a dusty plasma including the dynamics of charged dust grains.
Abstract: Using the reductive perturbation method, equations for ion-acoustic waves governing the evolution of first- and second-order potentials in a dusty plasma including the dynamics of charged dust grains have been derived. The renormalization procedure of Kodama and Taniuti is used to obtain a steady state nonsecular solution of these equations. The variation of velocity and width of the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) as well as dressed solitons with amplitude have been studied for different concentrations and charge multiplicity of dust grains. The higher-order perturbation corrections to the KdV soliton description significantly affect the characteristics of the solitons in dusty plasma. It is found that in the presence of positively charged dust grains the system supports only compressive solitons. However, the plasma with negatively charged dust grains can support compressive solitons only up to a certain concentration of dust. Above this critical concentration of negative charge, the dusty plasma can support rarefactive solitons. An expression for the critical concentration of negatively charged dust in terms of charge and mass ratio of dust grains with plasma ions is also derived.

TL;DR: The radioprotective efficacy of aqueous extract of Rajgira leaves against whole body gamma radiation was studied in Swiss albino mice and accompanied the increased endogenous spleen colonies and the spleen weight without any side effect or toxicity.
Abstract: Radioprotection/Amaranthus paniculatus/CFU-S/LD 50/30 /GSH/LPO/Gamma Radiation . The radioprotective efficacy of aqueous extract of Rajgira ( Amaranthus paniculatus ) leaves against whole body gamma radiation was studied in Swiss albino mice. The oral administration of Rajgira extract at 800 mg / kg body weight / day for 15 consecutive days before whole body exposure to radiation was found to be effective with the LD 50/30 values of 6.33 and 8.62 Gy for irradiation alone and Rajgira + irradiation group, respectively, giving a dose reduction factor of 1.36. This effect of Rajgira accompanied the increased endogenous spleen colonies and the spleen weight without any side effect or toxicity, as well as the modulation of the radiation-induced decrease of reduced glutathione and the radiation-induced increase in lipid peroxidation assessed in the liver and the blood.
