TLDR
Evidence-based recommendations are developed to inform clinical decision-making in the management of thyroid nodules and differentiated thyroid cancer and represent, in the authors' opinion, contemporary optimal care for patients with these disorders.Abstract:
Background: Thyroid nodules are a common clinical problem, and differentiated thyroid cancer is becoming increasingly prevalent. Since the American Thyroid Association's (ATA's) guidelines for the management of these disorders were revised in 2009, significant scientific advances have occurred in the field. The aim of these guidelines is to inform clinicians, patients, researchers, and health policy makers on published evidence relating to the diagnosis and management of thyroid nodules and differentiated thyroid cancer. Methods: The specific clinical questions addressed in these guidelines were based on prior versions of the guidelines, stakeholder input, and input of task force members. Task force panel members were educated on knowledge synthesis methods, including electronic database searching, review and selection of relevant citations, and critical appraisal of selected studies. Published English language articles on adults were eligible for inclusion. The American College of Physicians Guideline Gr...read more

Current state and future perspective of molecular diagnosis of fine-needle aspiration biopsy of thyroid nodules.
TL;DR: Fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) is the most sensitive and specific tool for the differential diagnosis of thyroid malignancy but there is a broad sensitivity range for the investigation of mutations in the indeterminate lesions, so additional molecular markers should be defined by mRNA and microRNA expression studies and evaluated in FNAB samples of thyroid carcinomas without known somatic mutations.

TL;DR: The objective of this study was to determine microRNA (miRNA) expression in PTC and determine whether 1 or more miRNAs could be measured in plasma as a biomarker for recurrence.

Deep convolutional neural network VGG-16 model for differential diagnosing of papillary thyroid carcinomas in cytological images: a pilot study.
TL;DR: After training with a large dataset, the DCNN VGG-16 model showed great potential in facilitating PTC diagnosis from cytological images and the contours, perimeter, area and mean of pixel intensity of PTC in fragmented images were more than the benign nodules.

A threshold value in Shear Wave elastography to rule out malignant thyroid nodules: a reality?
TL;DR: The 66 kPa threshold in Shear Wave elastography is the best ultrasound sign to rule out malignant thyroid nodules and the method is simple, quantitative, reproducible and usable in the study of nodules larger than 3 cm.

Decision aids for people facing health treatment or screening decisions
Dawn Stacey,Dawn Stacey,Krystina B. Lewis,Michael J. Barry,Carol Bennett,Karen Eden,Margaret Holmes-Rovner,Hilary A. Llewellyn-Thomas,Anne Lyddiatt,Richard Thomson,Lyndal Trevena +10 more
TL;DR: Decision aids reduced the proportion of undecided participants and appeared to have a positive effect on patient-clinician communication, and those exposed to a decision aid were either equally or more satisfied with their decision, the decision-making process, and the preparation for decision making compared to usual care.
