TLDR
Evidence-based recommendations are developed to inform clinical decision-making in the management of thyroid nodules and differentiated thyroid cancer and represent, in the authors' opinion, contemporary optimal care for patients with these disorders.Abstract:
Background: Thyroid nodules are a common clinical problem, and differentiated thyroid cancer is becoming increasingly prevalent. Since the American Thyroid Association's (ATA's) guidelines for the management of these disorders were revised in 2009, significant scientific advances have occurred in the field. The aim of these guidelines is to inform clinicians, patients, researchers, and health policy makers on published evidence relating to the diagnosis and management of thyroid nodules and differentiated thyroid cancer. Methods: The specific clinical questions addressed in these guidelines were based on prior versions of the guidelines, stakeholder input, and input of task force members. Task force panel members were educated on knowledge synthesis methods, including electronic database searching, review and selection of relevant citations, and critical appraisal of selected studies. Published English language articles on adults were eligible for inclusion. The American College of Physicians Guideline Gr...read more

Everolimus in Patients With Advanced Follicular-Derived Thyroid Cancer: Results of a Phase II Clinical Trial.

TL;DR: Everolimus has clinically relevant antitumor activity in patients with advanced differentiated thyroid cancer and given the observed disease control rate and the relatively low toxicity profile, further investigation of everolimus in sequential or combination therapy in these patients is warranted.

Mutational burdens and evolutionary ages of thyroid follicular adenoma are comparable to those of follicular carcinoma

TL;DR: The data indicate that FTA genomes may be as old as FTC genomes, thus suggesting that follicular thyroid tumor genomes during the transition from FTA to FTC may stand stable at genomic levels in contrast to the discernable changes at pathologic and clinical levels.

Performance of CT in the Preoperative Diagnosis of Cervical Lymph Node Metastasis in Patients with Papillary Thyroid Cancer: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
TL;DR: CT may be used as a complementary diagnostic method in addition to ultrasound for diagnosing cervical lymph node metastasis in patients with papillary thyroid cancer, though CT and ultrasound combined are superior to ultrasound only.

Application of deep learning to the diagnosis of cervical lymph node metastasis from thyroid cancer with CT
TL;DR: A deep learning–based CAD system could accurately classify cervical LNM in patients with thyroid cancer on preoperative CT with an AUROC of 0.953, and based on its high accuracy, it is considered that this model may be useful in a clinical setting to detect LNM on preoperatively CT in patientsWith thyroid cancer.

Update on Molecular Testing for Cytologically Indeterminate Thyroid Nodules.
TL;DR: The 4 commercially available molecular tests for thyroid cytology offer unique approaches to improve the risk stratification of thyroid nodules and familiarity with data from the validation studies as well as the emerging literature about test performance in the postvalidation setting can help users to select and interpret these tests in a clinically meaningful way.

Dawn Stacey,Dawn Stacey,Krystina B. Lewis,Michael J. Barry,Carol Bennett,Karen Eden,Margaret Holmes-Rovner,Hilary A. Llewellyn-Thomas,Anne Lyddiatt,Richard Thomson,Lyndal Trevena +10 more
TL;DR: Decision aids reduced the proportion of undecided participants and appeared to have a positive effect on patient-clinician communication, and those exposed to a decision aid were either equally or more satisfied with their decision, the decision-making process, and the preparation for decision making compared to usual care.
