Evidence-based recommendations are developed to inform clinical decision-making in the management of thyroid nodules and differentiated thyroid cancer and represent, in the authors' opinion, contemporary optimal care for patients with these disorders.Abstract:
Background: Thyroid nodules are a common clinical problem, and differentiated thyroid cancer is becoming increasingly prevalent. Since the American Thyroid Association's (ATA's) guidelines for the management of these disorders were revised in 2009, significant scientific advances have occurred in the field. The aim of these guidelines is to inform clinicians, patients, researchers, and health policy makers on published evidence relating to the diagnosis and management of thyroid nodules and differentiated thyroid cancer. Methods: The specific clinical questions addressed in these guidelines were based on prior versions of the guidelines, stakeholder input, and input of task force members. Task force panel members were educated on knowledge synthesis methods, including electronic database searching, review and selection of relevant citations, and critical appraisal of selected studies. Published English language articles on adults were eligible for inclusion. The American College of Physicians Guideline Gr...read more

TL;DR: A review of the more aggressive variants of papillary thyroid cancer with respect to main characteristics, histological and molecular features, and the consequences that the knowledge of these variants should have in the treatment of the patients.

Thyroid Nodule Size at Ultrasound as a Predictor of Malignancy and Final Pathologic Size
Allison Cavallo,Daniel Johnson,Michael G. White,Saaduddin Siddiqui,Tatjana Antic,Melvy Mathew,Raymon H. Grogan,Peter Angelos,Edwin L. Kaplan,Nicole A. Cipriani +9 more
TL;DR: Thyroid nodules subject to FNA show step-wise decline in malignancy rates by size, demonstrating that size alone should not be considered as an independent risk factor, and size at ultrasound shows relatively good correlation with final pathologic size.

TL;DR: In patients with DTC and undetectable TSH-stimulated Tg level (TSH-Tg) in the absence of Tg antibodies (TgAb) at the time of ablation, undetECTable postoperative TSH -Tg in the presence of a TgAb for 6-18 months after ablation is frequent.

TL;DR: The lack of reliable markers to predict biological behavior of nodules with suspicious (indeterminate) cytology, patients with such nodules are generally advised to have surgery, unless autonomous function of these nodules can be confirmed by scintigraphy.

Texture analysis and machine learning to characterize suspected thyroid nodules and differentiated thyroid cancer: Where do we stand?
TL;DR: The aim of this review is to summarize the available literature data on texture analysis, with and without CAD, in patients with suspected thyroid nodules or differentiated thyroid cancer, and to assess the current state of the approach.
