Drought Stress Impacts on Plants and Different Approaches to Alleviate Its Adverse Effects.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors have discussed the sophisticated adaptation mechanisms and regularity network that improves the water stress tolerance and adaptation in plants, including growth pattern and structural dynamics, reduction in transpiration loss through altering stomatal conductance and distribution, leaf rolling, root-to-shoot ratio dynamics, root length increment, accumulation of compatible solutes, enhancement of transpiration efficiency, osmotic and hormonal regulation, and delayed senescence.

Marker-assisted backcrossing to introgress resistance to fusarium wilt race 1 and ascochyta blight in C 214, an elite cultivar of chickpea

TL;DR: Two parallel marker‐assisted backcrossing programs by targeting foc1 locus and two quantitative trait loci regions, ABQTL‐I and ABQ TL‐II, were undertaken to introgress resistance to FW and AB, respectively, in C 214, an elite cultivar of chickpea.
Journal ArticleDOI

Application of genomics-assisted breeding for generation of climate resilient crops: Progress and prospects

TL;DR: The present review elaborates the progress and prospects of GAB for improving climate change resilience in crops, which is likely to play an ever increasing role in the effort to ensure global food security.

Growth and development: a broad view of fine detail.

TL;DR: This issue finds that the understanding of processes as fundamental as alternation of generations, organ formation, cell polarity, cell identity, responses to environmental cues, and the shift from vegetative to reproductive growth is advancing rapidly.

Advanced backcross QTL analysis of a Lycopersicon esculentum ×Lycopersicon parviflorum cross

TL;DR: The Advanced Backcross QTL (AB-QTL) strategy was used to explore this genome for QTLs affecting traits of agronomic importance in an interspecific cross between a tomato elite processing inbred and the wild species L. parviflorum, finding at least one QTL was associated with an agronomically favourable effect, despite the overall inferior phenotype of the wildspecies.

A QTL study on late leaf spot and rust revealed one major QTL for molecular breeding for rust resistance in groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.)

TL;DR: A candidate SSR marker linked with this QTL was validated using a wide range of resistant/susceptible breeding lines as well as progeny lines of another mapping population (TG 26 × GPBD 4) and should be useful for introgressing the major QTL for rust in desired lines/varieties of groundnut through marker-assisted backcrossing.

Exploitation of wild Cicer species for yield improvement in chickpea

TL;DR: An attempt was made to increase the seed yield in chickpea through the introgression of genes from wild relatives at the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), Syria, from 1987 to 1995.
