Frequency domain equalization for single-carrier broadband wireless systems

TLDR
This article surveys frequency domain equalization (FDE) applied to single-carrier (SC) modulation solutions and discusses similarities and differences of SC and OFDM systems and coexistence possibilities, and presents examples of SC-FDE performance capabilities.
Abstract
Broadband wireless access systems deployed in residential and business environments are likely to face hostile radio propagation environments, with multipath delay spread extending over tens or hundreds of bit intervals. Orthogonal frequency-division multiplex (OFDM) is a recognized multicarrier solution to combat the effects of such multipath conditions. This article surveys frequency domain equalization (FDE) applied to single-carrier (SC) modulation solutions. SC radio modems with frequency domain equalization have similar performance, efficiency, and low signal processing complexity advantages as OFDM, and in addition are less sensitive than OFDM to RF impairments such as power amplifier nonlinearities. We discuss similarities and differences of SC and OFDM systems and coexistence possibilities, and present examples of SC-FDE performance capabilities.

An uncoded BER comparison between DFE-SCCP and OFDM using a convex analysis framework

TL;DR: This article aims to establish a theoretical performance comparison between the Single Carrier with Cyclic Prefix equalized with a Decision Feedback Equalizer (DFE) and the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems.

Novel block constructions using an intrafix for CPM with frequency domain equalization

TL;DR: New block constructions that use a subblock of data-dependent symbols, called intrafix, to satisfy both constraints for different CPM-FDE systems: using either a cyclic prefix or a training sequence (TS), both for precoded and nonprecoded CPM.

Space-Frequency Decision Feedback Equalizer

TL;DR: A hybrid time-frequency-domain decision feedback equalizer is proposed, which performs parallel detection of the detection of multiple cochannel single-carrier spatially multiplexed data streams and outperforms interference-cancellation-based equalizers in the presence of channel estimation errors.

Test of HF (3-30 MHz) MIMO communication system based on polarisation diversity

TL;DR: In this paper, a 2×2 MIMO system for trans-horizon radio communications within the HF band (3-30 MHz) is presented, where the diversity of transmitted polarisations is proposed as an alternative to spatial diversity in order to limit the aperture of antenna arrays at both ends of the radio link.

Filter Bank Based Frequency-Domain Equalization with Noise Prediction

TL;DR: A hybrid frequency-time domain equalizer, which utilizes FB based equalizer for the feedforward part and a noise predictor (NP) for the feedback, able to provide significant performance enhancement over the DFE structure where the decoding is after the feedback loop.

Analysis and Simulation of a Digital Mobile Channel Using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing

TL;DR: The analysis and simulation of a technique for combating the effects of multipath propagation and cochannel interference on a narrow-band digital mobile channel using the discrete Fourier transform to orthogonally frequency multiplex many narrow subchannels, each signaling at a very low rate, into one high-rate channel is discussed.

BER sensitivity of OFDM systems to carrier frequency offset and Wiener phase noise

TL;DR: In this contribution the transmission of M-PSK and M-QAM modulated orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) signals over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel is considered and the degradation of the bit error rate is evaluated.
