Frequency domain equalization for single-carrier broadband wireless systems

TLDR
This article surveys frequency domain equalization (FDE) applied to single-carrier (SC) modulation solutions and discusses similarities and differences of SC and OFDM systems and coexistence possibilities, and presents examples of SC-FDE performance capabilities.
Abstract
Broadband wireless access systems deployed in residential and business environments are likely to face hostile radio propagation environments, with multipath delay spread extending over tens or hundreds of bit intervals. Orthogonal frequency-division multiplex (OFDM) is a recognized multicarrier solution to combat the effects of such multipath conditions. This article surveys frequency domain equalization (FDE) applied to single-carrier (SC) modulation solutions. SC radio modems with frequency domain equalization have similar performance, efficiency, and low signal processing complexity advantages as OFDM, and in addition are less sensitive than OFDM to RF impairments such as power amplifier nonlinearities. We discuss similarities and differences of SC and OFDM systems and coexistence possibilities, and present examples of SC-FDE performance capabilities.

Investigation on Data Identification Problem for Data-Dependent Superimposed Training

TL;DR: This work firstly reviews the data identification problem from the view of sub-space, and derives the requirement of the precoding matrix for solving the DIP in DDST system by using singular value decomposition, and develops an appropriate precode matrix based on Zadoff-Chu sequence which is shown to satisfy all conditions derived.

A comparative simulation of mobile WiMAX physical layer performance for Zero-Force (ZF) and Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) channel equalizers

TL;DR: The performance of the MMSE equalizer is comparable to or slightly better than the ZF equalizer, and the symbol error rate versus signal to noise ratio performance predictions are analyzed.

Elimination of Data Identification Problem for Data-Dependent Superimposed Training

TL;DR: The present study explores the theoretical foundations for DIP in DDST schemes using a signal subspace technique and derives the general conditions under which DIP occurs and shows mathematically that the occurrence of DIP is related to the adopted modulation scheme and the pilot pattern.

Low complexity turbo-like decision feedback equalization for broadband wireless single carrier systems

TL;DR: The proposed scheme accomplishes the efficiency of ideal decision feedback equalization for conventional block wise SC/FDE and shows a remarkable performance increase for large signal constellations and highly frequency selective multipath channels.

Analysis and Simulation of a Digital Mobile Channel Using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing

TL;DR: The analysis and simulation of a technique for combating the effects of multipath propagation and cochannel interference on a narrow-band digital mobile channel using the discrete Fourier transform to orthogonally frequency multiplex many narrow subchannels, each signaling at a very low rate, into one high-rate channel is discussed.

BER sensitivity of OFDM systems to carrier frequency offset and Wiener phase noise

TL;DR: In this contribution the transmission of M-PSK and M-QAM modulated orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) signals over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel is considered and the degradation of the bit error rate is evaluated.
